One good piece of news for Madea audiences, however, is the news that there is a Madea sequel in development at Showtime. Tentatively named Mabel, the series will follow Madea in the 1970s, with Tyler Perry planning to use a female actress to portray a young Madea for the first time. At 52, Perry has also begun to sound out retiring and passing the Madea torch to a new generation, with the Madea star stating in the same interview that "I'm looking at the exit here coming up soon, so I'm totally able to hand it off."
