Madame Web is scheduled to begin filming in July. Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson is leading the cast as the titular heroine in the upcoming movie set in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Directed by Jessica Jones' S. J. Clarkson off a script by Kerem Sanga and Morbius duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Madame Web marks the debut of SSU's first female superhero. At the moment, it's not known which version of the precognitive mutant will appear in the movie, although signs point towards Johnson playing Julia Carpenter, the protege of the original Madame Web, Cassandra Webb. Madame Web has a star-studded cast featuring Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim alongside Johnson. Recently, Scream Queens star Emma Roberts also boarded the movie.

On Tuesday, Vanity Fair confirmed that Madame Web will begin filming in July, with Johnson traveling to a secret location to commence production on the movie. Exact details about the filming schedule aren't being disclosed at this point, although Johnson says that she will be bulking up for her first-ever action outing, and she hopes to do as many stunts as possible in the movie. In the words of the actress, Johnson say she "can probably do some Tom Cruise stuff.”

The Madame Web filming start is an exciting prospect, as once it goes into production, the storyline and character details will likely become clearer, giving prospective audiences an idea of which Marvel comic characters and arcs will be brought to life on-screen. With filming underway, Sony may also soon offer some official images of Johnson in her Madame Web costume. It's interesting to hear Johnson confirm that she'll be performing some action stunts, as this indiciate that she won't be playing Cassandra Webb. In the comics, the character suffers from Myasthenia gravis, which limits her mobility. This adds credence to the idea of  Johnson playing Julia Carpenter, although fans will have to wait for an official confirmation to know for sure what Madame Web has in store for the next SSU instalment.
