Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy shares a video of a car stunt being perfected. Taylor-Joy has had a meteoric rise to stardom since she appeared in Robert Eggers' period-set horror film The Witch in 2015. She has worked with several prominent directors since then, including Edgar Wright on Last Night in Soho and M. Night Shyamalan on Split and Glass, but the project that most launched her into the stratosphere is the popular Netflix chess miniseries The Queen's Gambit, which premiered in October 2020 and came home with 11 Emmys and two Golden Globes.

Taylor-Joy's latest project is the long-gestating prequel to 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, which will follow Charlize Theron's character Furiosa in her younger days. The film will also be directed by George Miller, who co-wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris, and is currently set for release on May 24, 2024, though the date has been delayed several times over the course of its production history. In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy, the cast of Furiosa will feature Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in unspecified roles.

On her Instagram, Anya Taylor-Joy posted a video of the crew testing a car stunt. While many of the commenters believe her to be the one behind the wheel, that is not made clear in the video, which may have just been filmed by the actress watching a stunt performer and is simply captioned with a set of emojis with halos over their heads. To that same end, it is also not confirmed if this stunt is being prepped specifically for Furiosa, though the rumors that production on the film is set to begin this year lend credence to that theory. Check out the video below:

The thing that is particularly interesting about the video is how plain it is. The car stunt is in its early stages, so it is being performed by a bland white car in a wide-open parking lot in front of two orange traffic cones. It doesn't look particularly impressive, but once all the proper elements and post-production are in place, it will be completely transformed into an exciting action moment.

Furiosa is a hotly anticipated film that for a long time felt increasingly unlikely to be made, considering that - while Fury Road made money - it was not a runaway success despite glowing critical praise across the board. However, with every new scrap of material that gets released onto the Internet, it comes closer and closer to fruition. Right now all fans have to hold onto are these opaque clues as to its progress, but sooner or later more concrete material is destined to emerge.
