There are very few movies like Mad Max, and the upcoming prequel, Furiosa, will be bringing an additional lens to see the dystopian world in this universe. Mad Max: Fury Road was seen, in many ways, as a story about Furiosa than the titular character, with plenty of things still to explore.

Due to this, there are several characters from the film that can return for the prequel in order to fully portray what they’re capable of and how they tie into Furiosa’s story. On the other hand, there are the characters who just won’t bring any real benefit to the prequel if they’re included.

Return: The Dag

The Dag

The Dag was one of the more fierce wives of Immortan Joe, a person who stood up for herself and the rest of the women. While she wasn’t quite the most dangerous character in the film, the Dag was more than capable of holding her own.

The prequel can dive into how she got that spirit of hers, seeing as this was something that lacked in the people of her community. Her outward mannerisms can also be shown in their origins, along with what motivated her to remain this way.

Stay Gone: Coma-Doof Warrior

Mad Max Fury Road Guitar Player Doof Warrior

Mad Max: Fury Road featured a variety of cool cars, although the flaming guitarist stood out the most. He did look pretty cool, but the Coma-Doof Warrior also stole focus without bringing much depth to his background and purpose.

His backstory apparently has to do with him wearing his deceased mother’s face, which sounds a bit too much to portray. If this story is shown, it will no doubt put Furiosa herself in the backseat. This is ultimately unneeded since the Coma-Doof Warrior wasn’t a big part of the plot in Fury Road.

Return: Corpus Colossus

 Corpus Colossus

Among all the terrible people in this dystopian world, Corpus was surprisingly gentle compared to the others. He was looked after by his father, Immortan Joe, displaying one of the few softer traits of the latter, which stemmed from their familial connection.

While the actor sadly passed away, the prequel can bring a younger version back to show how Corpus’ relationship with his father and brother worked. His own past can be portrayed, along with character traits that Fury Road only implied at.

Stay Gone: Nux

Nux in the War Rig in Mad Mad: Fury Road

The thing with Nux is that Fury Road delivered all there was for his characterization. He had a fanatic devotion to Immortan Joe before switching sides and sacrificing himself. Nux’s appearance in a prequel is altogether immaterial.

The most that can be shown is Nux during his fanatic days, which won’t bode well for the story since there won’t be any progression in it. It was only after his character development that Nux’s importance was highlighted, something that isn’t possible for a prequel even though the role is the best one for actor Nicholas Hoult yet.

Return: Splendid Angharad

Splendid Angharad (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) Mad Max: Fury Road

Splendid was killed off in Fury Road to prove how anyone can die in the movie. That move did its part, but it was at the expense of the potential the character had. After all, she was the leader of the wives and the one whose ideals they followed.

Furiosa should bring the best that Splendid has to offer by showcasing the influence she had on the others. She won’t be burdened by the heavily pregnant state she was in the movie, meaning the prequel can present the leadership abilities she possessed in full.

Stay Gone: Toast The Knowing

Toast The Knowing

Toast was also one of the fiercer wives of Immortan Joe, but she lacked that hint of having more to offer. Instead, it seemed as if what was shown of Toast was all that she could deliver in terms of character range.

With Furiosa being a story that sets up the titular character’s backstory, Toast can be left out as a way of presenting the early days of Immortan Joe collecting his wives, meaning Toast just didn’t arrive by that point. Actress Zoe Kravitz has also appeared in a bunch of franchises by this point, so leaving her out won’t harm her credibility either.

Return: The Valkyrie

The Valkyrie

Another collateral loss as a way to progress the story, the Valkyrie was introduced in such an important fashion that one might have thought she was going to stick around. Being a part of Furiosa’s childhood, it’s a natural choice to include her in the prequel.

The show can expand on the history Valkyrie and Furiosa had as part of being the same tribe, and the story is set up to bring the younger days of both the characters to the screen. The way the characters reunited in Mad Max: Fury Road confirmed there’s a genuine connection between the two.

Stay Gone: Capable

Capable

The downside of being a pacifist character is that there’s nothing to really explore about them. Capable falls under this as she was basically the same person throughout the movie, in that she was the composed one of the wives.

Her main story was connected to Nux, whom she rehabilitated into becoming the changed person who sacrificed himself for good. Due to this, there won’t be anything for Capable to offer in a prequel and she should also be left out of the group of wives for this series.

Return: Immortan Joe

Immortan Joe from Mad Max Fury Road

Not for nothing is Immortan Joe considered among the best villains of the past decade, as everything in Mad Max: Fury Road circled around his heinous acts. Furiosa’s motivations involved bringing him down in the movie, although there’s a lot of room to carve out a larger backstory.

The younger Immortan Joe can progress from a person who wasn’t nearly as terrible a man as he became in the movie. This development can tie into Furiosa’s own growing plans to end Joe’s reign, all of which can be seen in its early days.

Stay Gone: Max Rockatansky

The original movie has to be on the watch list of fans before checking out Furiosa, but the titular protagonist of the series should sit this series out. After all, it won’t really make sense to bring him in since he had only come across Furiosa in Fury Road.

Even if some way is devised to incorporate Max into the plot, his presence is certainly going to steal Furiosa’s thunder. That’s the wrong way to go since it only achieves fan service without giving weight to the plot itself. So, Max is better left out on his own rather than adapt him in here.
