Domynique Kloss and Mackinley Gilbert's relationship hasn't hit any bumps on Married At First Sight season 16 just yet, but it's clear that Mackinley's sense of humor is starting to grind his wife's gears. There have been some seriously mismatched couples throughout MAFS history and based on their differences, Domynique and Mackinley were expected to be from the start. While described as an old soul, Domynique, 25, was chosen for MAFS after her mother applied on her behalf, while Mackinley, 34, only recently moved to Nashville and didn't have his own place.
Despite several signs that Married At First Sight's Dr. Pepper Schwartz incorrectly matched Domynique and Mackinley, they had a relatively smooth wedding, even though their respective mothers weren't sure what to think of their union. When the duo traveled to their honeymoon destination in Jamaica alongside the other MAFS season 16 couples, they appeared to be physically compatible, unlike Gina Micheletti and Clint Webb. Unfortunately for Mackinley, it didn't take long for Domynique to grow tired of his sense of humor, especially since Mackinley also came off as more introverted than she expected.
It's Hard To Tell When Mackinley Is Being Serious On MAFS
While humor is subjective, it's been impossible for Mackinley to land a joke because Domynique can't tell when he's being serious. Some participants have had a particularly quirky sense of humor, like Neil Bowlus from MAFS season 3 and Lindsey Georgulis from MAFS season 14; the same goes for Mackinley, who plays around with deadpan deliveries. The problem with Mackinley's deadpan style is that because there is no discernable inflection, the MAFS season 16 star accidentally comes off like a liar. Before they went horseback riding, for instance, Mackinley told Domynique that he was a natural rider and had been around the animal his entire life. On the excursion a few hours later, Mackinley had to make it clear that it was a joke and that he had never been on a horse before.
Mackinley's Humor Doesn't Match Domynique's Directness
When it comes to how they communicate, Mackinley and Domynique have different styles, an observation that has already caused a few brief spats. Although Jasmine Secrest's husband, Airris Williams, has waved some red flags, he and Domynique are direct and say exactly what they're thinking and how they feel. Mackinley, on the other hand, isn't as open as his MAFS counterpart; by trying to paint himself in an impressive light through jokes and outlandish claims, Nashville's newest resident seems reluctant to let his guard down, which Kirsten Grimes has also accused her groom, Shaquille Dillion, of. As their honeymoon began to wrap up, Domynique expressed that while Mackinley is attractive, she has already started to grow tired of his inability to say what's truly on his mind.
Since the social experiment has only just started, Domynique and Mackinley's relationship may continue to deepen, but it's unlikely. Rumors have swirled that Domynique and Mackinley split before Decision Day, and if they're correct, the MAFS season 16 couple are set to butt heads when Mackinley's living situation is revealed. While Domynique shouldn't have been chosen for an arranged marriage for different reasons, her early problems with Mackinley don't paint a happy ending in sight.
