New Character Spots For 'Machete'

The latest batch of TV spots for the upcoming Machete movie reveal that the titular character (played by Danny Trejo) is not the only one who can kill things and make stuff explode with style.

Directors Robert Rodríguez and Ethan Maniquis assembled quite the cast for their Machete feature, which includes action stars like Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, and Steven Seagal, along with the likes of Robert De Niro, Cheech Marin, and Jessica Alba.

The film's plot revolves around the renegade Machete, who is attempting to keep a low profile after a violent encounter with Texan drug lord Torrez (Seagal).  When the former Federale is double-crossed by a shady spin-doctor named Benz (Jeff Fahey) during a mission to kill the corrupt Senator McLaughlin (De Niro), he sets out on a quest for revenge.

Machete receives help in the form of Luz (Rodriguez), a taco slinger who dresses like a (saucy) pirate; he is pursued by attractive ICE agent Sartana (Alba); and eventually has to contend with the gun-happy McLaughlin himself (who is understandably kind of peeved about that whole assassination attempt thing).

Get a brief look at these three characters and Machete himself, by checking out the TV spots below:

This film could be a fun bit of mindless, action-oriented entertainment and a decent way to cap off the 2010 summer movie season.  Machete will be a graphic exploitation pic in every sense of the term - see the bloody red band trailer for a better idea of what exactly that entails.

Despite her absence from the marketing campaign, Lindsay Lohan will in fact appear onscreen in Machete as well.  The often troubled actress plays a spoiled socialite with a taste for behaving badly in the film - hence why it would be in bad taste to highlight her character too much, given Lohan's current circumstances.

Machete arrives in theaters in the U.S. on September 3rd, 2010.
