The MacGyver reboot's fifth season will be its last. Based on the hit 80s crime-adventure show about an incredibly resourceful secret agent, MacGyver first aired on CBS in September 2016. Though it has sometimes struggled for ratings since its debut, the revival starring X-Men: Apocalypse's Lucas Till is currently in its fifth season.

Now, Deadline reports that MacGyver's fifth season will be its last. "The MacGyver team has traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own," Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement about MacGyver's end. She also expressed admiration for the show's cast, crew, and showrunner Monica Macer, who replaced Hawaii Five-0 developer Peter M. Lenkov in the role after his dismissal last year. The fifteenth episode of the show's fifth season, MacGyver's series finale will air on Friday, April 30th.

For a variety of reasons including a poor critical performance, the MacGyver reboot hasn't made the same cultural impact as its predecessor. The original series starring Richard Dean Anderson has been referenced on numerous subsequent television shows like The Simpsons and even spawned the informal term "to MacGyver" something, or utilize whatever one has on hand to solve a problem. Additionally, a new Peacock comedy series for Will Forte's referential MacGruber was announced last August. Still, fans of MacGyver in all its forms should tune in to what may be the last earnest take on TV's favorite secret agent improviser to air for some time.
