Will Forte, star of MacGruber, has shared an epic first-look set photo of the returning cast. MacGruber originally started life as a Saturday Night Live sketch that parodied iconic 80s action-adventure series MacGyver. Played by Forte, special ops agent MacGruber quickly became one of SNL’s most bizarre and hilarious recurring characters, never failing to lose focus in increasingly high-pressure situations and accidentally get himself and his assistants blown up in the process.

The MacGruber sketches proved to be so popular that Forte went on to create a feature-length MacGruber movie in 2010, directed by co-writer and Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone. The film saw Forte and Kristen Wiig reprise their roles from SNL alongside new characters played by Ryan Phillipe and 80s icon Val Kilmer. Though the film wasn’t a critical or commercial success, its ridiculous premise and totally absurd humor have earned it a cult following over the past few years. Therefore, it was a pleasant surprise for fans last year when Forte announced that Peacock had commissioned a revival in the form of an eight-episode MacGruber TV series.

Now, Forte has shared an exclusive first look image at MacGruber’s main cast. The photo, posted on Forte’s Instagram, shows Phillipe, Forte, and Wiig standing in dynamic poses, lit dramatically by the oncoming sunset. Though the lighting makes details of the actor’s costumes difficult to make out, it’s clear that they’ve once again donned their iconic 80s inspired attire. See the post below:

Forte recently teased a first look at the MacGruber series on Late Night With Seth Meyers, reading a scene from the upcoming TV series that had the Late Night crew cracking up. Other than that, news about MacGruber’s filming schedule or when it’s set to release has been scarce, so it’s safe to say that this image is more than enough to get fans excited for the Peacock original. MacGruber, Vicky St. Elmo, and Lt. Dixon Piper make an iconic trio, and this dynamic first look suggests that the MacGruber series is going to be just as epic and ridiculous as the sketches and feature film that came before it.

With so many familiar faces returning on-screen and behind the scenes, the MacGruber series is in safe hands. The show is also set to introduce some new characters into the Gruber-verse, however, with Sam Elliot playing MacGruber’s estranged father, Lawrence Fishburne playing an esteemed military general, and Mickey Rourke playing an enigmatic enemy of MacGruber. Though there’s no word on when MacGruber is scheduled to premiere on NBC’s streaming service, fans will be delighted to know that the series is officially in production, and it’s only a matter of time before MacGruber is blowing up on screens once again.
