Despite Apple's impressive resources and excellent logistics, when supply and demand are drawing supplies tight from both sides, it's simply too much to handle without facing some stock issues. In-store pickup is still available at some retailers, so it hasn't reached extreme constraints yet, but the convenience of online ordering is limited.
