Following much speculation, author Paul Tremblay reveals that M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock At The Cabin is an adaptation of his horror novel The Cabin at the End of the World. Tremblay’s novel describes a family vacationing in an isolated cabin, who are soon interrupted by a group of invaders. Miles away from their closest neighbor, and with no way to escape, the family is trapped with the terrifying intruders who believe they are there to save the world.

Just like many of Shyamalan’s other movies, details for this project have remained quiet for the duration of its production. However, it has previously been reported that Knock At The Cabin is a home invasion movie. The brief plot description already had The Cabin at the End of the World readers wondering if the film was related, but when the Knock At The Cabin title was announced it drew a very clear correlation between Tremblay and Shyamalan’s thrilling horrors.

Following the film’s wrap last month, Tremblay confirmed the suspicious connection between Shyamalan’s Knock At The Cabin and his The Cabin at the End of the World during an interview with CNBC. While this adaptation has been in the works for several years, it was slow-moving and Shyamalan was initially only set to be a producer. As Shyamalan shifted to both writer and director, Tremblay spent his time dodging questions that Shyamalan’s latest horror was related to his own work. However, the theories became too difficult to dispute once Tremblay's credit popped up on the film's IMDb page. Read Tremblay’s full quote below:

"I signed an option with FilmNation in late 2017. The production team then went on a search for a director and other talent to attach. While another director was briefly attached, I'd heard that Night had read the screenplay and was interested in possibly producing. When it didn't work out with the first director, Night was still interested in producing, which then became him wanting to rewrite the script and direct as well.

"I honestly spent a chunk of my 2022 spring quelling internet rumors and putting out Twitter fires connecting the book and movie. It reached a point in early June where that became impossible, however, with all the information out there, including the IMDb page. I have been doing my part to be respectful of movie marketing desires and certainly wouldn't dream of spoiling anything. Like the majority of adaptations, there will be story changes and differences compared to the book so my readers will still be surprised by the film."

M. Night Shyamalan directing Knock At The Cabin surrounded by other crew members

Knock At The Cabin is hinted to have a '90s thriller feel, as Shyamalan has previously shown off the '90s lenses used throughout the movie. The director has also openly discussed his intense experiences from the Knock At The Cabin set, revealing that he needed to take a break from filming due to the emotional performances of the actors. Though he didn’t share who evoked this reaction, the powerful performances of Knock At The Cabin are given by Dave Bautista, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, and Rupert Grint.

This is Shyamalan’s second and final movie as part of his 2019 Universal Pictures deal to create two new features. Though the confirmation that Knock At The Cabin is an adaptation of The Cabin at the End of the World does give audiences some idea of what to expect, Shyamalan’s signature writing style with shocking plot twists makes it difficult to predict. Audiences can expect to see Knock At The Cabin in theaters on February 3, 2023.
