It's only the beginning for Assane Diop in Netflix's Lupin, as season 1 brought about adept twists and turns in each episode. The show managed to have a huge impact and became one of Netflix's most popular shows shortly after its release. With a story as intricate as this one, it's inevitable that many questions will arise amongst viewers.

Beyond the obvious ideas of revenge, murder, and fraud, there are several clues throughout the show that suggest a myriad of outcomes for Assane and his plan to avenge his father. The more the show goes on, the less things seem to be what they were in the beginning. Although there are many, here are 10 of the most pertinent questions that need to be addressed in season 2.

What Will Happen To Raoul?

At the end of episode 5, Assane’s son Raoul is kidnapped by Pellegrini's hitman Léonard. It seemed that Assane’s quick thinking on the train caused Léonard to forget his original assignment, which was to get Assane only and leave Claire and Raoul alone. There is a chance that he was given a new task after he updated Pellegrini on Assane's clever escape.

Seeing as Léonard moved rather quickly after being arrested at the train station, it wouldn’t be out of character for him to move just as fast in the matter of getting Assane in any way he can. It’s just a question of whether Léonard is acting out of his own anger or out of duty to Pellegrini. If it’s the latter, then Raoul has more of a chance to escape unscathed.

Who Is Claire Dating?

Perhaps it’s just further insight into Assane's family life, but the way that there is consistent mention of the fact that Claire is dating and that she’s moving on makes things seem sort of suspicious. It is especially questionable after the last episode where she is shown going to therapy and discussing her relationship with Assane before she knew that she was pregnant.

It was also made clear that she knew that he didn’t get money in the most legal way for quite some time. Is there more to her story in the way there seems to be for Juliette? It’s possible that she’s dating someone nice who doesn’t have an ulterior motive, but the opposite could also be in the cards for her character.

What Is Juliette & Assane's Relationship Now?

After it was revealed that Assane ended his relationship with Juliette in order to solely be with Claire, Juliette’s balancing act became a bit more precarious. At first, it seemed that she was just the daughter of the man who framed his father and with whom he shared his first kiss.

But with the new knowledge introduced in episode 5, she became all of that plus Juliette, who was in love with Assane who was in love with Claire. It all begs the question of how long they were involved and how their relationship has evolved since then.

How Far Does Dumont’s Corruption Go?

Lupin Dumont Young Dumont Old Split

Dumont didn’t start his career by being corrupt. In fact, he seemed very nervous about being involved with Pellegrini when things turned out to be a bit shady. After he returned home from his nerve-wracking rendezvous with Assane, he was in great distress about the whole ordeal and didn’t seem like someone who spent his whole career with dirty hands.

This is important because it can be a determining factor in how far he will go to bury the truth. If this is his only regretful offense, there’s a chance that he will either help Assane even further or attempt to keep the image of his career squeaky clean.

Were The Earrings Symbolic?

At the end of their private meeting, Assane adorned Juliette with a pair of earrings that he stole from an elderly woman just moments before. Similarly, he gifted Benjamin with a stolen Fabergé egg and some jewels that were meant to help them set up shop for their soon to be thriving, but obviously less than legal business.

These back to back offerings could suggest that perhaps he was just in a giving mood, that he wanted to appease Juliette in some way for letting her down, or that they were supposed to have the same effect: to put things in motion for a major plan.

Will Guedira Help Assane?

Lupin Guidera Outside Blue Jacket

No one on his team believed him at first. When they finally started to see the connection between Arsène Lupin and Assane, he was pulled off the case by Dumont. In episode 5, he is at the same location as Assane, Claire, and his son Raoul.

Due to alienation from his team and because he was present at the time when Assane realized that his son was missing, will there be a bit of a collaboration? There is also room for the possibility that there will be a final pardon, similar to those in Peppermint starring Jennifer Garner and The Foreigner starring Jackie Chan.

What Does Anne Know?

It isn’t likely that Anne has no clue about her husband’s past actions. Perhaps she doesn’t have all the pieces of the puzzle, but there’s something there. It’s evident through the way that she talked to her daughter about him that she knew that everything wasn’t spotless when it came to her husband’s career.

In the next season of the show, it’d be helpful to understand what she knows because it’d alleviate the question of whether she knew that her husband was up to no good when she was tasked with getting Assane’s father to sign the confession.

Did Assane Reveal His Identity On Purpose?

Throughout season 1, Assane was always a few steps ahead of his opponent. Just when it seemed that he ran out of steam, it turned out that he had planned for that very moment. There was a moment in episode 3 where cracks started to peek through. When he revealed his identity to Dumont while questioning him, it was unclear whether or not it was purposeful.

The idea that Assane had been unraveling the whole time is less than likely, but it did seem like a pretty big step to reveal his identity when that was how he stayed so ahead of the game in the first place. In either case, it makes the whole chase more interesting.

What Exactly Does Assane Know About His Father’s Death?

In the beginning, it seemed that Assane knew a lot more about his father and his life and death than he let on. But as the show progressed, it became obvious that either something was missing or he had an end goal that was bigger than figuring out what happened to the necklace.

Seeing as the man that he fought on the train is the same man who looked at him through the window when he was a child visiting his father in prison, it is either that Assane is showing excellent restraint to catch a bigger fish or he simply hasn’t connected the dots yet. Now that the same man has kidnapped his son, it will be impossible to avoid acknowledging that this man’s face is too familiar.

Will Juliette Be The Final Boss?

With the information that came out in episode 5, Juliette’s character had even more grounds for suspicion. It didn’t seem likely that she was completely ignorant of everything that was going on, especially after she was warned by her mother in episode 2 about her father, and when she willingly told her father that it was Assane arranged the meetup at Luxembourg Gardens.

Her actions consistently reflected the behavior of someone who knew more than they let on. Now that there is another level to her past relationship with Assane, it is possible that she could be the key to Assane’s successful revenge or turn out even worse than her father.
