The wizarding world in which Harry Potter exists is full of different characters, from creatures and beasts to wizards and muggles, and all of them bring their own personalities to the table. While some are hardworking like Harry, and others are all about intelligence like Hermione Granger, some of the characters are a little more eccentric.
It's what makes the Harry Potter franchise so enjoyable on the whole, as there is a character to cover every walk of life. There's somebody that every viewer can relate with, even if that character is able to do magical spells and fly on a broomstick, and some of the more eccentric characters actually end up being some of the best within this franchise too.
Dolores Umbridge
Dolores Umbridge is one of the most hated characters in the Harry Potter movies, seemingly taking a sick sense of pleasure and enjoyment out of hurting and torturing young students. However, she masks all of her evil with a very eccentric and over the top personality.
From her childish giggles to her cat plates, or the way everything she owns is over the top with pink, Umbridge is certainly a very unique individual. She is a big personality, and, while it is a very cruel one, it is also eccentric, which is why she's such a memorable villain.
Nearly-Headless Nick
While Nearly-Headless Nick isn't shown as much in the later movies, he is still one of the most eccentric characters in the franchise. The ghost is very over the top with his behavior and his actions, and that is what makes him so much fun.
He interacts with all the young wizards in a charming way, but his personality is also of one who has seen a lot of people come and go, so he is able to judge people more easily. He is even more eccentric in the book, as he desperately tries to impress the other ghosts, and it is a very enjoyable storyline.
Bellatrix Lestrange
Spending a long time locked up in Azkaban prison obviously played an impact on the mindset of Bellatrix Lestrange. However, even without that spell locked away for her actions, Bellatrix is still a very eccentric character, showing that in her love of torture and her giddy glee that comes from that.
Some characters are incredibly eccentric in a positive manner, but that isn't the case with Bellatrix. She's a unique personality that is very over the top, and that only serves to make her scarier, as it's never truly clear what she's thinking about at any given moment.
Albus Dumbledore
Albus Dumbledore isn't often seen as one of the wilder, more eccentric characters in the movie because of how important he is to the story in other ways. He's a mentor, he's a leader, he is kind, but, throughout all of that, he is also very eccentric, and that's all part of his charm.
Dumbledore has a very eccentric personality which leads to him coming out with some random quotes at times. However, it's also why people find him to be so much fun; he gets to show his unique personality in some of the lighter moments, with his quirky personality being shown.
Nymphadora Tonks
Nymphadora Tonks is the one character that most Potterheads wish had been highlighted a little more in the movies, as she's such a big element of the books. She's someone who lives to the beat of her own drum, and that is why she's such a popular character.
In the movie, her shapeshifting ability is showcased a little, and mainly for comedic effects, which also shows she's quite an eccentric and unique person. She uses her differences to make other people happy, though, and that's why she proves to be a hit with fans.
Professor Slughorn
Professor Slughorn is another one of Harry Potter's more eccentric characters and someone who is very different from the other teachers at Hogwarts. His obsession with collecting his students is quite an odd one, but it is his quirky personality that really sets him apart from the rest.
Only someone who was very eccentric would disguise themselves as a pink armchair, after all. He can be quite funny, as he often drifts off into his own little world, coming out with random phrases and often muttering away to himself, without a care in the world.
Hagrid
Hagrid is certainly one of the more eccentric characters within the Harry Potter movies, and he's also one of the most loveable. He doesn't do things in the conventional manner that is expected, but that's why he stands out so much, and it's also why Dumbledore and he get along so well.
Hagrid is happy to love those that might not necessarily be liked by others, like dragons and giant spiders. His hobbies are certainly very different from what the other characters seem to enjoy, but he is also the kindest character in the franchise, as well.
Professor Trelawney
Professor Trelawney doesn't get showcased quite as much as the other professors at Hogwarts, but the moments she's shown make it clear that she's a very eccentric person. She's clearly very invested in her studies in divination, and that appears to have taken a hold of her with the manner in which she acts.
Trelawney is very over the top with the way she talks and acts within her class, showcasing her eccentric personality. She will happily yell out her predictions of the future to anyone that will hear them, even if they're not the most positive.
Mad-Eye Moody
Mad-Eye Moody is certainly one of the most eccentric characters in these movies, as he is someone who is very unpredictable in his behavior. While he is caring and wants to help everyone, he can also be snappy at points, as well, which makes him tough to read, but that's exactly what he wants.
Nobody knows what Mad-Eye is going to do next, and he comes out with some truly wacky one-liners at points, which leaves everyone but him perplexed. However, that is also what makes him such a fun character, as he really does stand out because of it.
Luna Lovegood
There's no doubt that Luna Lovegood is the most eccentric, out-there character within the Harry Potter movies, but she is also one of the kindest and most down to earth. She's a fan favorite for a reason, as you can never truly know what to expect when it comes to Luna.
While she is at times bullied for her personality, it is just that which makes her such a special character. Luna looks at the world from a totally different perspective to the other characters, and she certainly comes out with some wild things. However, her point of view is an important one and one which helps Harry on his journey at various points.
