LumaFusion is finally out of beta for Android and Chromebooks, but what makes the popular video editor special? LumaFusion was first released in 2016 as an iOS-exclusive video editing application and has received multiple awards since its launch. Five years after it launched, LumaTouch, the app developer, announced it would release it for Android devices and Chromebooks. However, it has taken more than a year for the app to be available.

LumaFusion, like Adobe Premiere Pro, is a professional non-linear editor (NLE). What this means is that users can edit any clip of a video without having to follow a sequence. The app has gained several features over the years and is popular among users because it packs features that are available on more expensive editors. In addition, another reason why it is so popular is that it was designed for touchscreen devices, such as the iPad, from scratch. With its debut on Android and ChromeOS, users of these two platforms now have a capable video editor they can use on their mobile devices.

How Much Does LumaFusion Cost?

On Android and Chromebooks, users will be able to layer up to 6 video and 6 audio tracks. According to LumaTouch, the number of layers will be based on the type of device. Users will be able to edit media directly from their device or import from cloud storage services to create videos in a variety of aspect ratios as well as different speeds and frame rates. LumaFusion also allows users to save and easily share effects presets as well as share edited videos to sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.

Installing LumaFusion is pretty straightforward. Android smartphone and tablet users can download it from the Google Play Store after paying the $29.99 fee. This is $10 more than the promo price it was available for when it was released on early access beta last November. So those who picked it up then will only have to update the app for the full experience. LumaFusion is also available to download from the Galaxy Store for owners of Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Tab S8 series.

Chromebook owners can also download from the Play Store, but unlike Android users who have to pay full price, Google offers Chromebook owners a 25 percent discount for a limited time. The discount is available to users who have purchased and activated a Chromebook. Interested users can check if they are eligible by visiting the Chromebook Perks page. The offer runs until February 23, 2024, and the discount has to be redeemed by March 23, 2024. The offer is valid in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

LumaFusion is integrated with StoryBlocks, a subscription-based library of more than a million royalty-free clips, templates, music tracks, and photos. LumaFusion users can purchase a StoryBlock subscription, which starts at $15 per month, from within the app. However, Chromebook users get 3 months of StoryBlocks for LumaFusion for free.
