The mysteries surrounding Luke Skywalker's missing lightsaber just got a whole lot more interesting -- now that the Star Wars comics have revealed Luke claimed a new, yellow lightsaber of his own in the days following The Empire Strikes Back.

The reveal comes as a massive surprise for a number of reasons, showing just how much the new Star Wars comic series from writer Charles Soule and artist Jesús Saiz is going to be adding to the existing movie canon. Beginning just moments after The Empire Strikes Back ends -- with Darth Vader slicing Luke's hand off along with Anakin Skywalker's original lightsaber -- fans realized one the plot hole of Luke's lost and found lightsaber might finally be closed. When the latest issue showed Luke's blue lightsaber being caught, the real twist seemed to have been revealed. But that was before Luke's second, previously-unseen lightsaber was revealed by Marvel Comics.

In the wake of Star Wars #2, some even theorized that the mysterious figure now claiming Luke's blade was a way of making Mara Jade part of the new Star Wars canon. But those theories will now be put on the back-burner, as Marvel has unveiled the coming cover to Star Wars #6, showing Luke Skywalker brandishing his new, yellow lightsaber, long before he crafted his final green one. Check out the full comic cover by R.B. The full story will have to wait for the issue's arrival in May, but at least for now, Luke has just received a far stronger connection to Rey Skywalker's own yellow lightsaber, revealed at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
