Netflix releases the full Luke Cage season 2 trailer ahead of the show's late June return date. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently saw the release of Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel TV is continuing to expand its side of the massive superhero franchise. So far this year, Netflix has already released Jessica Jones season 2, and is gearing up to launch a sophomore outing of Luke Cage next - with another of their Marvel shows set to get another season this year as well.

Last fans saw Luke Cage (Mike Colter), he was teaming up with the other superheroes of New York City in The Defenders. And, with the Hand seemingly defeated, he returns to Harlem to continue protecting his neighborhood. Season 2 also sees the return of fan favorite characters like Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard), and Shades Alvarez (Theo Rossi). However, there will be some new players in Harlem when season 2 picks up, and one of them makes a splash in the newest Luke Cage trailer.

Netflix unveiled the full trailer for Luke Cage season 2 today, introducing viewers to one of the new villains taking on the titular superhero this season: Bushmaster (Mustafa Shakir). Things don't look good for Luke when Bushmaster takes him down singlehandedly, and it seems like that confrontation will haunt Luke throughout season 2. Netflix additionally debuted a new poster for Luke Cage season 2, take a look below.

There's a great deal more going on in Luke Cage season 2 than his confrontation with Bushmaster, though, as we see glimpses of what the other characters are up to. For her part, Misty Knight seems to be investigating Bushmaster. We do get to see Misty and her bionic arm in action at the end of the trailer in a scene intercut with one of her arguing with Luke about who's the sidekick and who's the hero. Elsewhere, Mariah continues her quest to rule Harlem, in this trailer saying, "Harlem doesn't need a hero, it needs a queen." She says this over a shot similar to one in season 1 of Cottonmouth. Plus, though we don't see it in the trailer, we know Luke Cage will team with Iron Fist at some point in season 2.

All told, the trailer previews an action-packed second season of Luke Cage. There's a great deal of action in the trailer alone, though it doesn't offer a concrete idea of who the main villain will be. Bushmaster receives the most focus, but Mariah sets a whole building on fire, with the help of Shades, so it seems Luke will have his hands full. However, it's unclear how everything will tie together - aside from these events all taking place in Harlem. One of the bigger criticisms of Netflix's Marvel shows is that their pacing throughout a season can change immensely and balancing so many elements in season 2 may create pacing issues for Luke Cage.

With that said, Luke Cage season 1 is a favorite among fans of Marvel's Netflix series. Now, fans will get to return to the show and revisit their favorite characters from the series soon enough since Luke Cage season 2 is set to premiere in a little over a month's time.
