Netflix has released new images from Luke Cage season 2, showing Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and officer Misty Knight (Simone Missick) in action.

It's an exciting day for fans of Marvel Netflix. Netflix has confirmed the release date of Luke Cage season 2, with it premiering on Friday, June 22. The June release date also confirms that, as in 2017, a third Marvel show - most likely Daredevil Season 3 - will stream towards the end of the year. There's even some speculation that Netflix could release a fourth series this year, Iron Fist season 2.

Now Netflix has followed this up with some exciting images from the series. These show Luke and Misty Knight teaming up on some common street thugs.

When will people realize not to mess with Luke Cage? Not only is the guy bulletproof, not only does he have super-strength and unbreakable skin, punching him is a tactical error. Meanwhile, he's now assisted by the NYPD's ultimate cyborg police officer. It's true Misty Knight's cybernetics are a touch more crude than those enjoyed by Coulson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Still, it's likely being punched by a powerful cybernetic arm will be an experience these thugs will never forget.

Of course, the real issue in Harlem is who's running the gangs. Season 1 set up Black Mariah as a powerful villain in Harlem, who's gained control of her brother's criminal empire. She's ruthless and dangerous, and her weapon of choice will surely be politics. Given that Luke Cage is an ex-con, he may well find Mariah's influence to be a greater threat than any gun. That certainly fits with Marvel's official synopsis:

"After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain."

But who is this "formidable new foe?" Season 1 featured a mid-series twist in which one villain was substituted for another and the synopsis will leave fans wondering if Marvel is pulling another bait-and-switch. Fortunately for Luke, he'll be taking on this enemy with help. As well as Misty Knight, Luke will be assisted by Danny Rand, who delights in his title of "Immortal Iron Fist." In the comics, Luke and Danny are partners - in fact, they founded the Heroes for Hire. There have been hints season 2 will set this plot up.

One thing's for sure, those street thugs are in serious trouble.
