Luke Cage Season 2 Now Filming

Marvel and Netflix have now begun production on the second season of Luke Cage that returns Mike Colter to his bulletproof role.

Marvel and Netflix aren't slowing down their partnership anytime soon, and officially begin filming the second season of Luke Cage today. The first season received no shortage of praise for its first six episodes that outlets had the pleasure of seeing before hand, but the second half of the season could not match a similar level. Still, Colter was able to maintain his fan-favorite charm that started in Jessica Jones, and has made audiences eager to see how he will be involved in The Defenders later this year.

But, that is only the bridge between solo seasons for Colter and fans have continued to be anxious to see more of Luke Cage. Not only was Colter great in the lead, but the introduction of other characters like Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard), or Shades (Theo Rossi) enriched this Harlem-based world. While most of the supporting characters will have to wait until season 2 to re-appear, they can now at least begin reporting to set.

OLV has revealed that season 2 of Luke Cage will begin filming today in New York. There is no word on who will be present for the start of filming, but it is likely that Colter will be present. Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker will also be on hand per usual. With filming now underway, set photos could surface sooner rather than later and offer up the first look at the second season.

It should not be terribly surprising that Luke Cage begins filming today. Colter said a few weeks back that filming runs from June 2017 to March 2018. Still, the surprise here could be that is it already happening without the announcement of casting additions. Previous casting calls have alluded at least two new characters joining the upcoming season, but they have yet to be cast publicly. These announcements could be just beyond the horizon at this point should they be involved with the early portions of filming.

What story will unfold in the next season is difficult to predict since we have yet to see how The Defenders will affect Luke's life, but that does not mean that the team-up will dictate the direction season two takes. In fact, Colter has said the season will see Cage deal with his public identity. Story points and casting aside, filming beginning now should give the production plenty of time and put it on track to follow up Jessica Jones season 2 and also have a 2018 release.
