Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson and star Lesley-Ann Brandt share their emotional reactions to the show's final table read. Starring Tom Ellis as the titular Lord of Hell, Lucifer is a show that has had a longer lifespan than many initially assumed it would. The series first ran on Fox for three seasons before being cancelled, but fan outcry led Netflix to pick it up. It was then assumed Lucifer would end after season 5, but fans were given a devilishly amazing surprise last summer when Netflix revealed the series would be back for a sixth and final run.

Currently, fans are still waiting for the back half of Lucifer season 5. The longer-than-expected season dropped its first 8 episodes back in August, and the wait for 5B has stretched on ever since. Production on the last few episodes was complicated due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Lucifer season 5 finally wrapped in October. This means the series could return at some point within the next few months, thus finally picking up on the shocking cliffhanger that saw God (Dennis Haysbert) arrive and Lucifer seemingly go missing in the aftermath of his fight with twin brother Michael.

Fans might still be waiting for Lucifer season 5, part 2, but behind the scenes, the show is coming to an end. Henderson, one of Lucifer's two showunners, shared a sweet post on Tuesday commemorating the very last table read for the series. "All the emotions. Love this incredible family," Henderson wrote. He added a picture of Lucifer's first table read from years ago, mentioning he couldn't share one from the last due to spoilers. Additionally, Brandt, who has played demon Maze throughout the show, retweeted Henderson's post and added emojis showing her own feelings.

Though Lucifer has evaded death so many times, this really is the end of the line for the show. It's sad that it is ending, though it's nice to know the cast and crew had time to prepare for its ending. For them, to have been facing cancellation so many times only to get brought back, it's likely a strange but incredibly emotional occasion. Everyone who has had a hand in Lucifer over the years should be proud of what they've accomplished.

It might be almost over for the likes of Henderson, Ellis, and Brandt, but Lucifer fans still have plenty to look forward to. As season 5B has yet to drop, it's hard to say what the final season has in store. A few things have already been revealed about the rest of Lucifer season 5, though. For example, God will play a big role in the story, and there's a musical episode on the way. Plus, fans can likely expect more developments for Lucifer's relationship with Chloe Decker (Lauren German). The end of Lucifer might be near, but there's a lot to celebrate before then.
