The second half of Lucifer season 5 will premiere on Netflix in May. The series stars Tom Ellis as the Devil after he leaves his hellish domain behind and takes up running a nightclub in Los Angeles. Though Lucifer is one of Netflix's biggest shows these days, it initially premiered on Fox. There, it ran for three seasons before getting cancelled, which then allowed the streamer to pick it up. Lucifer has enjoyed a longer-than-expected lifespan, though it will come to an end with the upcoming season 6. Before that, though, Lucifer has to complete season 5.

Thanks to its higher episode count, Netflix opted to split Lucifer season 5 into two parts. The first half arrived last August and picked up with the thread of Lucifer returning to Hell. Not long after, his devious twin Michael appeared in L.A., acting as Lucifer with the intention of messing with his life. Additionally, fans were left with the surprising arrival of their father God (Dennis Haysbert) at the very end of the finale, and they've been wondering just when Lucifer will be back to complete this string of episodes.

Now, they finally have their answer. Netflix announced Monday Lucifer season 5, part 2 will premiere on May 28. That's just under two months away from now. The streamer confirmed the news with a picture of Lucifer and his love Chloe Decker (Lauren German), though it is not from the new episodes.

As Netflix typically holds onto their trailers until closer to a project's release, fans can expect the first trailer for Lucifer season 5, part 2 to roll out sometime in the next few weeks. A small snippet of footage was tacked onto a fancam for Chloe, and it showed her searching for Lucifer in the aftermath of his fight with Michael. Little else is known about the story for the remaining season 5 episodes, but the trailer should shine a light on everything from God's role to Lucifer's whereabouts. Also included in the back half of Lucifer season 5 is the musical episode, which was teased at DC FanDome last fall.

The news of Lucifer's imminent return comes just as the cast and crew wrap work on the entire series. Recent weeks have seen stars Ellis, D.B. Woodside, and others commemorating the end of Lucifer on social media, which casts a new light over the remaining episodes. Exactly when Lucifer season 6 will arrive for audiences remains to be seen, but they at least have plenty of installments to go before then. The end is near, but isn't quite upon us just yet.
