Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Lucifer season 5, part 1.

Lucifer Morningstar obsessed over getting revenge on Dan Espinoza in the first half of Lucifer season 5 — and every of his schemes show just how devious this devil can be. Despite being the ex-husband of Lucifer's love, Chloe Decker, Dan formed something of his own bond with the titular fallen angel, especially in part 1 of season 5. Through the show's run, the pair have gone back and forth from jovial mockery to moments of genuine respect and friendship. Things briefly soured in Lucifer season 4, with Dan considering Lucifer partly responsible for the death of Charlotte Richards. As a result, Dan became outright antagonistic in his quest for justice.

Fortunately, Dan ultimately reckoned with his own projected guilt and saw the error of his ways. In Lucifer season 5, part 1, Dan has immersed himself in self-help and attempted to maintain a positive outlook on life. His friendship with Lucifer was subsequently rebuilt, as The Devil was drawn into his new-age methods. Dan and Lucifer were also repeatedly paired up to investigate cases separately. At one point, Dan gave Lucifer a matching homemade chakra bracelet — a garment that Lucifer actually wore on multiple occasions. After a particularly successful investigation, they even declared themselves to be "Bracelet Bros." Things again took a turn, however, when Dan was lured into seeing Lucifer's devil face and manipulated into shooting him by the rogue angel, Michael.

As a result of Dan's actions, Lucifer went down a vengeful rabbit hole. Rather than assist Chloe in pursuing The Whisper Killer, Lucifer stayed up all night crafting an array of schemes. In fact, he had two whiteboards full of them. Some were distinct callbacks to previous episodes such as Chloe's movie career, Dan's fear of rollercoasters, and the running gag of Dan's oft-stolen pudding. There were also some clear movie references. The majority, however, came straight from Lucifer's devilish imagination.

Included on the board was a diagram of ways Lucifer could physically hurt Dan. These included breaking various bones and the severing of limbs. There was also a second whiteboard, one that Lucifer focused on but was not actually seen. Lucifer season 5, part 1 finale writer Chris Raffety shared his notes, however which had several additional schemes that might've been featured on it. Those included supergluing Dan's drawers, replacing his hair gel with semen, and emptying his bank accounts.

Ultimately, Lucifer eschewed his plans to save Chloe. He subsequently battled alongside Amenadiel against the villainous Michael and the soul-searching Maze, before they were all confronted by God. That doesn't mean he will merely let things slide, though. After all, before Chloe went missing, Lucifer vocally settled on the perfect (albeit equally unseen) revenge. Equally, he has always been very much a devil of his word and not willing to let people escape punishment. With such episodes as "Dan Espinoza: Naked and Afraid" still to come, there's every chance Lucifer will still belatedly enact his own special brand of justice. Fans will know one way or another when Lucifer season 5, part 2 is released.
