Over the first three seasons of his self-titled show, Lucifer got to know a lot of women — and men. That doesn’t mean he got attached to any of them. Then along came Eve in season four. Eve was something different. She wanted a relationship with Lucifer that still included all the hedonism he cultivated on his own. And he went with it.

Was Eve his best choice when he had detective partner Chloe waiting in the wings? Here, we’re delving into the reasons Eve was a great match for Lucifer, and the reasons Chloe might be even better.

TEAM EVE: SHE ACCEPTS LUCIFER’S THE DEVIL

Eve came back to Earth specifically to be with Lucifer. And she accepts who he is without hesitation. She already knows he’s the devil and that’s what she likes about him. His devil face doesn’t deter her, either.

Lucifer’s history as the devil is at the heart of his insecurity, so Eve’s willingness to see that side of him in a positive light is a breath of fresh air.  Her acceptance and support provides an ease to their relationship.

TEAM CHLOE: SHE KNOWS WHO SHE IS WITH OR WITHOUT LUCIFER

Chloe figured out who she is and what she wanted before Lucifer came along. Although that meant she couldn’t make her relationship with her ex-husband work, she was stable enough to get through their divorce while still maintaining a stable life for their daughter and remaining friends with him.

Chloe’s early life challenges, including losing her father and dealing with her famous mother, have taught her to embrace the things that make her happy and give her life meaning as an adult. Her commitment to her job and her roles as a mom and a friend make her someone who can handle whatever life has to throw at her, whether Lucifer’s around or not.

TEAM EVE: SHE GETS ALONG WITH EVERYONE

When Eve was originally introduced, it seemed like Lucifer was going to be the only one who could stand her. There was the potential for rivalry and tension between Eve and the other characters — especially her and Chloe.

Refreshingly, Eve’s disarming way of seeing the good in others endears her to almost everyone she meets. As the first woman on Earth, she doesn’t have a ton of experience with other people. So everyone she meets is a source of interest and fascination. That means she approaches everyone as a potential friend, an attitude that quickly disarms others and helps her connect with them.

TEAM CHLOE: SHE KNOWS HOW LUCIFER’S EVOLVED

Lucifer Morningstar and Chloe Decker in Lucifer

Chloe hasn’t known Lucifer for long, but in the time he's been a part of her life, she’s seen him evolve and work on being a better person. She’s become intimately familiar with his quirks and learned to accept his more ridiculous inclinations. At the same time, she’s also learned that in addition to those qualities, Lucifer has more going on underneath the bluster than he’d like most people to notice.

Chloe's ability to accept who he’s become, and appreciate his efforts at self-improvement even when they don’t quite work out, gives her an understanding of him that few others can rival. Even after Chloe discovered he was the devil and began to doubt him, she ultimately realized that she knew who he really was no matter what some old books or Father Kinley would have her believe.

TEAM EVE: SHE’S HELD A FLAME FOR LUCIFER FOR MILLENNIA

Lucifer Morningstar and Eve in Lucifer

We all know Eve’s story. She was made to be Adam’s wife. They lived together in the Garden of Eden, a paradise that they could stay in indefinitely… as long as they didn’t eat from the Tree of Knowledge. Then along came Lucifer. He tempted Eve, convincing her to eat the forbidden fruit, which she shared with Adam. After that, they were expelled from Eden and life got harder.

As far as Eve was concerned, though, Lucifer was totally worth it. Even after ascending to Heaven millennia ago, she still held a torch for him. That’s a long time to crush on one person (or celestial).

TEAM CHLOE: LUCIFER AND CHLOE HAVE BEEN THISCLOSE TO GETTING TOGETHER FOR FOUR SEASONS

The show has been teasing a potential romance between Chloe and Lucifer ever since the first season. The pair have gotten remarkably close to getting together more than once. And even when they’ve been with other people, a relationship between the pair never seemed to be completely off the table.

At this point, it seems only fair for the series to pay off what it's been building towards. How would Chloe and Lucifer function in an actual relationship? Inquiring fans want to know!

TEAM EVE: SHE APPEALS TO LUCIFER'S FUN AND PLAYFUL SIDE

Eve’s return to Earth represented the first time she really got to experience life as something other than Adam’s wife. That made her open to everything that being in Lucifer’s life had to offer — even if she’s the one who instigates the latest multi-day, um, party.

As a result, she brings out his fun side in a way no one else has. Her ability to incorporate pleasure of all kinds into their relationship while still being fully committed to Lucifer gives them a unique dynamic.

TEAM CHLOE: LUCIFER AND CHLOE HAVE AN UNDERSTATED CHEMISTRY

Lucifer often seems to have an almost magical effect on the opposite sex. Yet Chloe wasn’t all that impressed with him at first. Instead, she found his ability to charm his way into whatever he wanted kind of obnoxious.

That is, until she started seeing that he had more to offer. Once they started working cases together and she got to know him, their chemistry slowly grew. As they learned to appreciate one another, they developed an understated chemistry that would provide a good foundation for a lasting romance.

TEAM EVE: SHE WANTS TO BE HER OWN WOMAN

Eve and Lucifer Morningstar in Lucifer

Eve spent most of her life — and after-life — trying to make her relationship with Adam work. Even though Adam spent most of the time talking about his ex, laying around, and watching ESPN. Adam never really cared about what Eve wanted, so she built her existence around what he wanted.

Unfortunately, that wasn't exactly the path to self-fulfillment for Eve. She never got to determine who she was outside of Adam. Choosing to be with Lucifer was the first major choice Eve made completely for herself since she and Adam were kicked out of the Garden of Eden. Her decision to seek Lucifer out was her first step towards self-actualization.

Chloe and Lucifer don’t seem to have a lot in common on the surface. His idea of having fun is a huge party at his nightclub. Her idea of a good time is game night with her daughter. Despite their differences, when they get together, their different perspectives on the world fit perfectly.

Their shared passion for solving crimes is the root of their relationship, but over time it’s become clear that they’re two halves of a whole. They surprise each other in a way that isn’t always comfortable, but does make them both better.
