Just when Lucifer started to feel like he was returning to his old spirited self, his demonic son Caliban decides to come find him in Hell. That's about as lucky as Satan has gotten in his latest comic series, but with the Lord of Hell on a mission of his own, it's anyone's guess what version of Hell Caliban will find when (or if) he arrives.

The odds--and the Heavens--may still be stacked against Lucifer, but there's no denying the building momentum in Dan Watters's comic series. As the titular star goes in search of a spot in the afterlife, our preview of Lucifer #9 shows that his son can't be overlooked. Having made a deal with the Angels to sell out his father for passage into Heaven, Caliban is taking the shortest path into Hell. Unfortunately for Lucifer, overlooking his son is what he's best at.

The son of Lucifer and the witch Sycorax, it's no exaggeration to call Caliban the secret tragic hero of the Lucifer series thus far. Indeed, there are sure to be plenty of readers hoping he actually does get to knock Lucifer down a peg or two, and just maybe earn some of his respect. Those readers will enjoy this new preview, as Caliban shows he inherited some of his father's talents for manipulation, as he barters a way into Hell with one particularly... questionable hunter. Fans are free to predict how Caliban will respond to the words, and suggested shameful deeds related to his own mother. But regardless of how their bargain ends, we're willing to bet that Lord Fowler isn't going to be leaving their encounter happier than when he entered it.

If this preview has piqued your curiosity, be sure to check out Lucifer Vol. 1 from your local comic shop, and read below for the official synopsis of the gathered collection:

This is the one true tale of what befell the Prince of Lies, the Bringer of Light—Lucifer. The blind, destitute old man, who lives in a small boarding house in a quiet little town, where nothing is quite what it seems and no one can leave. He’s trapped, you see? Trapped in a bizarre prison with no memory of how he got there or why. He has no recollection of setting out to find his offspring. He also does not remember that if he does not find him it could be the end of all things. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, a cop who may have brain cancer is tasked with a mission: find and kill Lucifer.

Lucifer #9 will be available at your local comic book shop on June 19th, or direct from DC/Vertigo.
