From the loss of life to unrequited love, feeling helpless and hopeless, desperate and afraid, there have been several moments that have cut to the core. Fans have loved every minute of the show, but, as some scenes have proven, it's wise to have a box of tissues nearby, especially when Lucifer is delivering one of his most emotional quotes. With season 6 ending the story, chances are there will be a few more sad moments to come.

Dan's Death And Trixie's Reaction

Arguably the most heartbreaking, and unexpected, moments from the show was Dan's death. He had been suffering so deeply after Charlotte's death, unable to find himself and his life purpose again. However, his death came at a time when he was just starting to heal from this pain.

The truly heartbreaking scene relating to Dan's death was Trixie's reaction when arriving at the hospital to learn that her father had died. She burst into tears and refused to believe it was true as everyone looked on, feeling her pain and wishing they could make it better. Further, learning that Dan was tortured by guilt and never made it to Heaven made his death even more painful for fans.

Lucifer Revealing Himself To Protect Chloe

Lucifer holding Chloe, screaming, his wings spread open.

Any time fans see Lucifer desperate to save Chloe, it makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside. In one particular episode, for example, he died on purpose to go back to Hell to get an antidote to the poison she had been given.

But one of the most heartbreaking scenes was when bullets came flying at Lucifer and Chloe thanks to an attack by Cain. Seeing Lucifer's desperation to save her, resulting in his wings coming out and wrapping around her like a cocoon to shield her, was enough to make any fan cheer. But, when Chloe later saw his Devil face because of it, the moment became both confusing and heartbreaking as Chloe became terrified of him.

Maze Realizing Eve Doesn't Love Her

Maze's constant attempts to get Eve's attention only to see Eve turn every suggestion around as a way to get back at Lucifer made fans just as frustrated as Maze. But after Maze took to a microphone to sing a love ballad to Eve, completely making herself vulnerable, and was met with the same response, fans felt her broken heart.

Not only did Eve ignore Maze's advances, time and time again, but later, when they met back up, Eve as much as told Maze that she wasn't interested.

Maze Learning Her Mother Has Died

Maze had been through so much through the series and had mentioned her childhood and not having her mother around on several occasions. However, she later got the answers she desperately needed. Not only did she learn more about her mother but that her mother was still alive.

The rejection by her mother once she tracked her down was truly heartbreaking, and one of the many times fans felt bad for Maze on Lucifer. But when Maze finally decided to get closure and go see her mom again to speak her mind, it was too late as she was gone. Maze's emotional reaction was enough to make fans grab for tissues.

Chloe Not Accepting Lucifer

Chloe from Lucifer looking scared, eyes wide open.

When Lucifer had a difficult discussion with Chloe, asking if she could truly accept who he was and she was not able to answer, it was quite sad. After Lucifer showed his devil face again and Chloe instinctively looked away and winced any time he touched her, fans could feel just how rejected and worthless Lucifer felt.

Indeed, he spent all of his time trying to prove his worth to her, and Chloe not being able to love him when he was his true self was a massive hit to Lucifer's self-esteem. His words following this event, saying "it hurts, not being accepted for who you are," makes for one of Lucifer Morningstar's best quotes.

Chloe Struggling With Her Faith

When fans learned that Chloe had run off to Italy with Trixie after learning about who and what Lucifer really was, they completely understood the reaction. Then, when she turned to a priest for help, her inner torment was evident, particularly when he met her weeping in the church.

Charlotte's Death

The scene with Amenadiel holding a dying and then dead Charlotte in his arms was one that likely made plenty of viewers sob in horror and disbelief. While it was a full-circle moment since Charlotte had finally managed to redeem and forgive herself, it was still sad to see her go.

The fact that Amenadiel was there when it happened made him feel guilty and angry, while Dan's expression and reaction when he saw his girlfriend dead, just when they were beginning to hit a stride in their relationship, was truly heartbreaking.

Lucifer's Reaction After Killing Uriel

Lucifer crying, hugging his mother in Charlotte's body.

Lucifer walking into his apartment, hair and clothes disheveled, looking for nothing more than to hug his mother for comfort, tugged at every heart string viewers have. While it was a difficult decision to kill Uriel, and one Lucifer had no choice but to make, it still didn't make it any easier.

Lucifer was in clear shock after killing his own brother, trying to process his grief and guilt that his brother really was gone for good. When Lucifer was later faced with the scenario of stabbing his brother again and again in his own death loop in Hell, seeing him relive that heartbreaking moment in his life was torturous.

God Not Saying I Love You

When Lucifer approached his father, asking him to tell him he loved him and God could not do it, fans cringed and cried at how hurt the seemingly tough Lucifer clearly was at this fact. He craved his father's love, and to ask him face-to-face to just say those three words and get nothing in response was heartbreaking.

It explained why Lucifer didn't feel like he could say those words to Chloe either and gave fans an entirely new perspective into why Lucifer shied away from any type of love for his entire life. While there were many times fans hated Lucifer, it was clear he was going through his own turmoil that caused him to act out at times and sometimes be selfish and egotistical.

Lucifer's Existential Crisis

When Lucifer begins to question who he really is and why, he starts to wonder what the purpose of it all is. He visits Linda and, in one of the few moments where Lucifer actually opens up to her, asks why he hates himself so much.

Even Linda is taken aback and likely close to tears herself, not only because of his emotional breakthrough but because she finally sees all of the pain and self-doubt behind Lucifer's confident exterior. It was certainly something fans weren't use to seeing, which made this scene all the more poignant.
