The showrunners of Lucifer, Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich, reminisce about their favorite moments from the series, which wrapped last year. Originally based on characters from DC Comics, Lucifer starred Tom Ellis as the titular Devil. The character first appeared in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman before getting his own spin-off comic book run. The series is loosely based on the source material, featuring Lucifer running his own nightclub and consulting with the Los Angeles Police Department after growing tired of running Hell.

The first three seasons of the series aired on Fox, but was canceled by the network in 2018. Due to its passionate fan base, the show was saved by Netflix after an impressive social media campaign. The series was renewed for three more seasons due to its stellar performance on the streaming platform, with Lucifer season 6 delving even deeper into the celestial and mythological aspects of the material. With plenty of wild and memorable moments over the course of the show's run, including Eve and Maze's wedding episode and Lucifer's season 5 sacrifice, it would be difficult for anyone to pin down a favorite, but the showrunners certainly have a few candidates.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Henderson and Mordovich revealed their favorite scenes from the show. A theme in their responses is an appreciation for the relationship between Lucifer and Chloe (Lauren German). See what they had to say below:

Henderson: I got one, Lucifer protecting Chloe with the wings at the end of season 3. One, I was just happy to have that in my episode, but also it was something we'd been building towards, so the whole room was always pitching towards this beautiful, iconic moment. Then, I was with Tom on set while he was acting out the inside of the wings, and I remember, he's going through it and he's playing stoic, and I remember he's like, "What do you think," and I'm like, "Tom, show us just how much this hurts you." I watched him immediately sell that and just break my heart, I was like, "Oh my god, I feel like I'm hurting him right now." That just felt so iconic, and it felt like the kind of moment that would make it so that Fox could never cancel us, at all, no matter what. There was no way they would do it.

Modrovich: And it worked! Oh wait. I'm a sucker for the romance, and there were so many moments in the show that I love and I'm proud of, but the one that I personally, like, forced was the axe scene. [Laughs] I really am proud of that moment, I think it's a beautifully romantic moment between Chloe and Lucifer. There's so many, I'm gonna have to say, also, Dan figuring out that he had been duped in "Dan: Naked and Afraid," that was not mine, that was Mika Costa, but God dang it, that was satisfying.

After the impact of Chloe and Lucifer's relationship in the show as a whole, it makes sense that those scenes would stand out to the showrunners years later. The lasting effect of those powerful moments is a testament to Ellis and Germans' performances, which were powerful throughout the series and an important contribution to the show's lasting success. After the key season 3 moment referred to by Henderson, Lucifer and Chloe went on to have an epic journey, leading up to their tragic season 6 storyline which eventually saw the couple reunited. The Lucifer season 6 finale was positively received by the majority of fans, and the satisfying conclusion of its core love story was an essential element of that success. With that context, the showrunners' comments carry some serious nostalgia.

With the enthusiastic fans having saved Lucifer once before, it wouldn't be a surprise if Lucifer got a spin-off, reboot, or revival in the future. With a character like Lucifer, there is potential for endless stories to be told, and though the finale was a well-done conclusion, this era of nostalgia has taught audiences to never say never. Whether Lucifer ever does return or not, the showrunners' favorite scenes as well as plenty more iconic moments are always available to be revisited.
