Luke Mabbott and Lucie Donlan from the UK version of Love Island have confirmed their new relationship, but Luke’s ex Demi Jones doesn’t seem thrilled about it. Demi and Luke ended their Love Island journey together but announced their split last month. Should Lucie be wary of Demi’s social media hints that Luke may not be the best guy?

On the first-ever edition of winter Love Island U.K. earlier this year, Luke Mabbott and Demi Jones were among the UK singles that flew down to South Africa to live in the villa. They were not paired up at first (Luke originally coupled up with Jess Gale and Natalia Zoppa, while Demi was interested in Nas Majeed). However, with some help from their friends, Luke Trotman and Siȃnnise Fudge, they became one of the villa’s most adored (and rooted for) couples. Luke, 25, is an engineer from Redcar, England, while Demi, 21, is a history student from Portsmouth. The couple came in third in the winter Love Island U.K final. Lucie Donlan, a 22-year-old surfer/model from Cornwall, appeared on Love Island U.K. season 5. While in the villa, she made connections with Joe Garratt and Tommy Fury. She and Joe got together after the show ended, but split sometime in January of 2020. Based on Lucie and Luke’s Instagram posts, rumors were flying about a possible romance.

Rumors of Luke and Lucie’s romance began circulating the week of June 20, 2020, when Lucie Donlan posted a bikini shot to Insta, with the caption, “Just recently I’ve been catching feelings...not flights.” Three days later, Demi posted a photo of herself sunbathing, writing, “Honey...you should take my advice, catch that flight, not the feeling.” Fans jumped on the similar captions, wondering if Demi was warning Lucie about Luke. However, a few days after that, Luke posted a mirror selfie with the caption, “Since you’ve been around I smile a lot more than I used to,” so it looks like Lucie didn’t take Demi’s post as a warning. The former Love Island contestants, Luke and Lucie, continued to put romantic captions under their photos for the next couple of weeks, before revealing their relationship this past weekend. Under a cute photo of the two sitting on a surfboard on the beach, Luke wrote, “My partner in crime”.

On July 10 of this year, just before the official Instagram confirmation of the relationship, Demi Jones tweeted, “Girlllllllll know your worth” with a yawning emoji. Fans speculated that it was again about Lucie, after seeing posts from Luke and Lucie in what looked like the same hot tub. A fan tweeted back at Demi, asking if the comment was about “Bieber” and “the mermaid”. The fan was referring to Luke’s resemblance to Justin Bieber and Lucie’s surfing career. Demi denied that the tweet was aimed at Lucie, replying, “No it really isn’t. Actually just felt like tweeting it because us gals need to be reminded sometimes lol, twitter just reads into things too deep.” However, fans are skeptical.

After Demi and Luke announced their split, Demi said that it was more Luke’s choice than hers and that he hadn’t asked her to officially be in a relationship after they left the villa. This, coupled with her cryptic social media posts, is leading fans to believe the posts are directed at Love Island star, Lucie.
