Mercades made a move on Johnny in the Love Island USA season 2 villa, but after leaving the show, she has new clarity on her summer fling. Johnny entered the villa on day one with the power to couple with any girl of his choosing. After a day of weighing his options, Johnny stole 24-year-old Cely Vazquez from Tre, and the two have been happily dating ever since. Though they haven't defined the relationship, the other islanders and fans at home assumed the pair only had eyes for each other. But that loyalty was tested during Casa Amor, and Johnny failed with flying colors.

Casa Amor, the show's "ultimate relationship test," is a franchise staple that separates the villa's men from the women in a secondary villa. The men share their new villa with five new ladies and the main villa women are kept company by five new bachelors. The two villas mix and mingle for a few days before the original islanders attend a re-coupling ceremony. Johnny found a connection with Casa Amor girl Mercades, christening their relationship with flagrant kisses and cuddles. On decision day, he ultimately decided to stay with Cely, leaving Mercades with no ticket into the villa.

During an interview with the After The Island YouTube channel, hosted by season 1 islanders Alexandra Stewart and Elizabeth Weber, Mercades gave a tell-all on her dalliance with Johnny. Mercades shared her deep respect for Cely, but felt she owed it to herself to see if there was a strong connection with Johnny. However, Johnny's assurances that he was dedicated to Cely while still pursuing Mercades made Mercades question his loyalty to her. "(Johnny's) saying one thing when the cameras are rolling, but when we're down and personal, it's completely different," she said.

Johnny did tell Cely about his digressions in the Casa Amor villa, but many fans think he didn't share the whole truth. Mercades didn't get a chance to meet Cely directly, but if she did, she would have told her, "make sure he tells you everything. If not, hit me up because I would gladly tell you." Mercades relented for a moment to say she had no ill will towards Johnny and thought highly of him, but ultimately thought Cely deserved better actions that matched Johnny's words.

When Cely heard of Johnny's affair, she was devastated and confused, but took him back in the end. She's employing the out of sight out of mind tactic to come to terms with his behavior, but as Love Island USA fans know, nothing can stay secret for long.
