Love Island contestant Sherif Lanre has been eliminated over violating rules of the show. The contestant, who was in the Mallorcan villa for seven days, was asked to leave on last week's episode after an incident that was severe enough for producers to kick him off Love Island for good. It is currently unclear what the circumstances are that led to the Sherif's mysterious exit at this time.
However, this is not the first person to get booted off of the show for breaking a rule. Back in 2016, Malia Arkian was exited from the villa after just one day for fighting with a fellow contestant. This time, Love Island isn't commenting further about the incident or rule that was broken, but what is public are the rules for the Love Island villa: contestants are not allowed to appear naked in front of one and other, strip, have solo-sex, and or engage in sexual activities while drunk. That said, according to a former Islander, Theo Campbell, there are really only three main rules that would warrant the removal of a contestant from the villa: fighting, being sexually forceful, and making racist slurs.
There have been rumors from a TV insider that Love Island executives are demanding secrecy about Sherif's removal from the show to avoid more scandal, apparently going as far as hiring security to prevent the family from speaking out about it. The only information directly from Love Island was from a spokesperson for the show who said:
"After breaking the villa rules, Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa."
There have been many rumors as to why he was kicked off the show, including a supposed leaked chat of Sherif's Instagram messages saying that he was kicked off Love Island because of fellow contestant Anton who was trying to get close to Anna (Sherif's partner). According to the Bristol Post, he text reads: "Anton happened. Purposefully moving to Anna while I'm right next to him, trying to touch her leg." Supposedly, Sherif wanted to talk in private to Anton, but it got heated and security had to split them up. However, a spokesperson for Love Island denied the messages coming from Sherif, saying, "We have checked and these messages haven’t come from Sherif." Ex-contestant Sherif went to his personal Instagram story to write about his sudden and mysterious elimination:
"I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it's something I know I will take on board and learn from... I appreciate you all and hope I provided some good, positive moments during my time on Love island and for anyone wondering I'm all good."
That said, fans may never really know the truth about the incident that occurred with Sherif, but viewers do know that Anna Vakili is very much in a vulnerable situation in the Love Island villa. Anna, who was paired with Sherif since day one of the show, is now facing it alone and is nervous about being the most obvious choice for next week's elimination. Sherif's sudden removal from the show could leave Anna in the hot seat.
New episodes of Love Island air every Monday to Friday, and Sunday at 9pm EST on ITV2.
