Love Island USA finalist Carrington Rodriguez is clapping back at the fans giving him a hard time for breaking up with Laurel Goldman. The viewers got to meet Carrington on the season 2 premiere, where he was coupled up with Kaitlyn Anderson. But Carrington's relationship with Kaitlyn didn't last long at all, and his head was completely turned when Kierstan Saulter entered the Las Vegas villa. Carrington and Kierstan dated for a while, but the pair broke up right before the Casa Amor twist (despite not knowing that it was coming).

Carrington recoupled with Laurel Goldman during Casa Amor, and they were together for the entire second half of Love Island USA season 2. With that said, some fans didn't love watching Carrington almost having his head turned for Lakeyn Call toward the end of the season. So while they did get to the finale together, Carrington and Laurel were still given fourth place by the public vote. When it comes to their post-show journey, Laurel did travel to Utah once to meet up with her Love Island beau, but they confirmed in December 2020 that they had indeed broken up.

Now, Love Island star Carrington Rodriguez is speaking up about the fans who are criticizing him for breaking up with Laurel Goldman after the show. During a particular conversation that he had on Instagram Live with co-star Johnny Middlebrooks, Carrington had the following to say: "We were talking, right? We weren't boyfriend and girlfriend. And that's fine, we knew each other for two and a half weeks out of the show. We gave it an honest effort and it didn't work." Carrington added that he supports Laurel in every way and would have no issues if she "had a boyfriend tomorrow." When Johnny read a comment from a fan saying that Laurel deserved better, Carrington joked back: "Hey, it's hard to find someone better than me." Below, you can watch Carrington's entire Instagram Live interaction with Johnny.

It must be noted that the Love Island USA fans shouldn't be forcing people who don't want to be together to stay in a relationship just for the sake of a reality TV storyline. While it does seem that Carrington was responsible for the breakup and that Laurel had a harder time with it than he did, it ultimately doesn't matter how their relationship fell apart. In the end, both Carrington and Laurel will likely be better off without each other, and that's all that should matter.

There's no denying how entertaining and iconic Love Island USA season 2 turned out to be. The fans are already eager to get more news on the third season of the American edition.
