While the main cast members are the focus of the reality dating show Love is Blind, sometimes, their family members can be scene stealers. The only time other people are featured in the show, beyond hosts Nick and Vanessa, is when the couples return home and must introduce their new fiances to their family and friends.
The cast represents a diverse group of people, which means their families come from all walks of life. Given the controversial nature of the show, it's no surprise that some are not so receptive to their loved one getting married a few weeks after meeting someone - and many of them are not afraid to show it. Meanwhile, others are surprisingly supportive, making for some sweet on-screen moments.
Shaina's Parents
Kyle meeting Shaina's parents and her siblings was arguably the most awkward scene of the show. It was obvious to both them and Shaina, who comes across as the Love is Blind season 2 counterpart to season 1's Jessica, that the relationship would never work out. But it was seemingly not so obvious to Kyle.
Both Shaina's mother and father were stone-faced, and when the topic of religious beliefs came up, a proverbial brick wall emerged between them. If the conversation was full of awkward silences before that, it became even tenser after.
Nick's Mother
Nick's mother was completely expressionless when meeting Danielle, seemingly more surprised that her son found someone than she was about the process. Nick is thirty-six, one of the oldest contestants ever on the show, and his mother noted that she didn't believe her son would ever get married.
It was an awkward backyard meeting with his mother and two sisters who grilled Danielle about how she could have fallen in love with Nick so quickly. They acted flippant and unsure, solidifying comments Nick made about his family prior, in that he feels they "sometimes forget he exists."
Natalie's Parents
Natalie's parents had very different reactions to discovering that Natalie was even on the show to begin with, let alone that she was engaged and set to get married in just a few weeks. While her mother was very protective and questioned the process, her father remained calm and open-minded.
It's clear her parents have very different personalities, much like she and Shayne, which could indicate that they can relate. Her mother did seem to like Shayne in the end, as did her father, so she may get their blessing after all.
Shayne's Mother
One of the quickest and easiest meetings was with Shayne's mother, who instantly took a liking to Natalie. Sadly, his father had passed away just a few months prior to filming, so his mom was still quite emotional. But seeing her son happy put a smile on her face.
It was a simple and sweet meeting where she instantly accepted Natalie into the family as she could sense that the woman brought her son joy during a tough time. Shayne has been one of the most popular cast members this season, but surprisingly ranks in the middle of the pack when it comes to Love is Blind cast members with the most Instagram followers.
Deepti's Parents
The second Shake entered Deepti's home, it felt as though they had been friends or dating for some time as they were instantly all comfortable around one another. With the same culture and upbringing, they all got along well. Even though she had never brought a date home before, despite being in a six and a half year relationship previously, they accepted Shake.
Being a product of an arranged marriage themselves, her parents viewed the process similarly and didn't find it strange. But when Deepti's mother opened up about how much she loved her husband and how he has taken care of the family for so many decades, it brought tears to everyone's eyes.
Danielle's Mom
Danielle's mom is a firecracker and seemed like the most down-to-earth parent among those featured on the show. She knew what was going on and had hope in the process for her daughter, believing that it was possible to fall in love so quickly.
Fans loved her candid nature, asking Nick and Danielle intimate details about their relationship and commenting on what she believes is necessary for a marriage to survive. She didn't hold anything back and fans loved that she is quirky and fun to be around. But most importantly, she made Nick feel welcome from the moment the couple arrived. Some fans believe that the age difference, a deep issue Love is Blind has tackled before, between Mark and Jessica, could be an issue, but it didn't seem to bother Danielle's mom.
Jarrette's Parents
Jarrette went into the process without telling his parents about it, so when he showed up at their doorstep they were presumably surprised to see him arrive with a woman (though the camera setup and mics would have tipped them off that something was going on).
Jarrette's mother couldn't stop talking about how cute Iyanna was, but the best reaction came from his father. A minister, his dad revealed that while he had been asked many times to officiate weddings, he had previously refused, saying that he would not do so until he did his eldest's son's wedding. It was a sweet moment on the show.
Shake's Mother
This moment may have been a rude awakening for Shake, one of the least likable cast members on Love is Blind season 2, but it was ultimately a sweet moment with advice from a concerned parent. When Shake confided in his mother that he was struggling with not having a physical connection with Deepti to match the emotional one, she shocked both him and the viewers. Instead of reassuring her son, she made it clear that she felt more for Deepti on this issue than for Shake.
As she told him, Deepti was a wonderful and beautiful woman and deserved nothing less than someone who loved her 100% in every way. It could have been the wake-up call Shake needed to either find a way to build that physical attraction or move on and let Deepti find someone who would love her for her instead of leading her on.
