The couples of Love is Blind season 2 have all said their I do’s and I don’ts, but fans are still eager for more, and there’s a lot that went down behind the scenes that was as compelling as what made it on screen. The hit Netflix show’s second season was just as entertaining as its first, and in a recent Reddit thread, viewers got the tea on all the drama they didn’t see.

Although six couples got engaged in the pods before they ever saw each other, only two couples got married in season 2. Love wasn’t exactly blind for some of the couples, and their relationships ended in heartbreak. Fans got to see how everything wrapped up, but there’s still a reunion episode that will shed light on what happened to the couples after the cameras stopped rolling.

There was a lot of entertaining material in season 2, but according to a crew member, there were even more compelling stories that went on behind the scenes. In the Reddit “Ask Me Anything” thread, someone who “worked on season 2” was verified by moderators and spilled the tea on the hit show’s second season and shed light on some of the most talked-about topics.

The Cups

Shaina Love Is Blind

Though the couples were technically the stars, in season 2, their conspicuous gold wine glasses often stole the show. Many fans suspected that the opaque gold glasses were used to prevent continuity errors and viewers from noticing the amount of liquid in the glasses changing from shot to shot. The crew member confirmed this but added that the glasses were also etched so the reflection of the film crew wouldn't be visible. And it turns out those glasses were nearly always full because the crew member claims the liquor was free-flowing throughout filming. “There is never not a time where contestants don’t have the opportunity to black out,” they commented. “I honestly think some of them were never fully sober throughout filming.”

Pod Date Details

All the pods on Love Is Blind season 2

Producers surprisingly have little to do with who gets to talk to who while in the pods. The crew member said that “everyone meets everyone in the pods,” but after cast members start forming connections, “contestants can request pod time with other people, and producers set it up.” However, the biggest bomb the crew member dropped about the pods is that dates last just seven minutes long, and cast members get very little time talking to each other before getting engaged. “Most of the couples who got engaged had 10-15 seven minute dates,” the crew member revealed.

Wedding Day Dumpings & Rings

In the finale, Salvador Perez, Deepti Vempati, and Natalie Lee all dumped their fiancés at the altar on their wedding days, and the cast member said that wasn’t by accident. “It’s in [cast members’] contracts that if they make it to a certain point, they have to show up to the wedding.” And after the devastating breakups, there remains the question of what happens to the engagement rings. Couples who actually get married get a “steep discount” on their rings, but the others have to return them. Natalie apparently had trouble parting with her ring, and the crew member claims she was threatened with a breach of contract lawsuit if she didn’t return it.

Danielle Ruhl & Nick Thompson’s Edit

Nick and Danielle were definitely the hot mess couple of the season, but the crew member claims much of this had to do with a bad edit. They said the show spent “too much time on Nick and Danielle having the same argument multiple times” and that there was more to their relationship than just yelling. Viewers also noticed how incredibly sweaty Nick was at the couple’s wedding, and the crew member confirmed that it was a whopping 105 degrees that day and everyone was “totally miserable.” They even say the crew had to bring “buckets of ice” to the individuals testing guests for COVID-19 “because the tests weren’t working in the heat.

Shake Sucks

Abhishek Chatterjee aka Shake on Love Is Blind season 2 proposing

Abhishek “Shake” Chatterjee became a villain of Love Is Blind season 2 in the eyes of fans due to the terrible way he spoke about his fiancé Deepti behind her back, and the crew member revealed that he was just as awful off-camera. In addition to always requesting “super expensive wine,” the crew member said that Shake had a grating personality. They recounted a story of Shake telling a producer “that he thought Deepti should be studied by science when he saw the extra skin she had following her weight loss.” Shake also made comments that it was a “struggle” dating Deepti because he hadn’t dated a woman “over 110” before.

Sal’s Mystery Woman

Salvador Perez on Love Is Blind season 2 in the pods

One of the briefly-mentioned and then quickly-dropped storylines in season 2 was Salvador’s mysterious ex-girlfriend, who showed up at his sisters’ house. Though he explained it to fiancé Mallory Zapata as simply a friends with benefits situation, the crew member claims “it was a way bigger deal than the show made it seem to be” and said, “there was a lot of tension around that for a couple days.”

Shayne Jansen’s Bad Behavior

Shayne Jansen on Love Is Blind

The crew member alluded to Shayne having a lot of very problematic behavior that was unsubstantiated, but they did go into more detail about the way Shayne treated production members. Though Salvador, Iyanna McNeely, Jarrette Jones, and Deepti were described as being “incredibly nice…very sweet, very considerate” to the crew, there were two times when Shayne was “openly hostile.” The first event happened at the bachelor party when Shayne threw a tantrum about striking out, and the other was after Shayne was dumped by Natalie—which the crew member admits was a rough thing to go through. However, the crew member clarified that Shayne was “generally fine to the crew,” aside from those incidents.

Even though fans saw six couples get engaged, two other couples got engaged, and many more who left the show single. The crew member revealed that some contestants decided to leave early after not connecting with anyone. Viewers may have noticed that in the early episodes when there are fewer and fewer people hanging out in the men’s and women’s living spaces. They also shared that the two couples who got engaged but were featured received nothing but a plane ticket home.

Season 2 of Love is Blind is an even bigger hit than the first, even though many fans feel changes need to be made in season 3. Despite the fact that there were only two happy endings for the couples, they still proved that sometimes love can be blind.
