Check out this behind the scenes clip for Paramount's upcoming Love and Monsters. Previously titled Monster Problems, the adventure film stars Dylan O'Brien as one of the few human survivors of the Monsterpocalypse. Seven years after the monster invasion, Joel Dawson (O'Brien) makes contact with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick). Elated at the confirmation Aimee's alive, a determined Joel sets off across 80 miles of monster-infested land to reunite with her. Along the way, he meets two fellow survivors (Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt) and gains a puppy friend.

Love and Monsters has weathered several changes on its road to release. First primed for theaters earlier this year, Paramount had already moved Love and Monsters once before it delayed the flick from April 2020 to February 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Then, in August, Paramount announced Love and Monsters would be the latest movie to skip a theatrical run and debut exclusively on demand. What's more, it would indeed be released in 2020; audiences can watch Love and Monsters from the comfort of their homes starting on October 16.

Ahead of Love and Monsters' New York Comic-Con panel on Saturday, Paramount has given Screen Rant this exclusive clip delving into the film's behind the scenes process. In it, director Michael Matthews and director of photography Lachlan Milne discuss the importance of location for Love and Monsters and how they sought to create an apocalyptic world from the very real landscapes of Australia. Check out the clip (which has kangaroos!):

As Milne points out, he and Matthews aimed to create a world that "didn't feel too dissimilar from the world that we all currently know, except for the fact that it's regenerated to a certain degree now that people aren't around." It's an interesting detail to work in, and one that makes perfect sense. If it's been seven years since the monsters took over, the world is bound to have changed drastically. Love and Monsters will spend a lot of time with Joel out in the wilderness, so a lot of thought will have gone into the locations he travels through. Audience members should enjoy seeing the colorful backgrounds Matthews and Milne have created.

The Love and Monsters panel at this year's virtual NYCC will take place on Saturday, October 10 at 7pm EST. O'Brien will be on hand to share new tidbits about his latest project, which will be his first live-action film appearance since sustaining an on-set injury from Maze Runner: The Death Cure. His fans will surely be thrilled to see him back in action, and they'll only have to wait one more week before Love and Monsters is available for their viewing pleasure.
