A new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power trailer teases the natural beauty of this new version of Middle-earth and other locations. Based on Tolkien's iconic The Lord of the Rings novels, Prime Video's upcoming series is set to mark a return to the world of Middle-earth, but with a brand new take on the source material. Taking place hundreds of years before the events of Peter Jackson's beloved The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Rings of Power chronicles a new cast of characters and the rise of Sauron in the prosperous Second Age of Middle-earth.

While Jackson's trilogy was beloved for many reasons, his focus on using the natural landscapes of New Zealand was a major highlight for many fans. The wild and varied landscape provided the backdrop for massive battles and heroic feats, something that The Rings of Power is seemingly keen to repeat, with filming for season 1 also taking place in New Zealand. Initial trailers for The Rings of Power have provided a first look at many of the locations, including the Mines of Moria and Numenor's capital city of Armenelos.

Now, the official The Lord of the Rings on Prime Twitter account has shared a brand new trailer for the highly-anticipated show. The latest clip makes the landscape of Middle-earth a central focus. The trailer provides an even closer look at the Mines of Moria, abandoned castles, scenic beaches, and more, teasing that Middle-earth is about to "descend into shadow," presumably referring to Sauron's rise. While earlier trailers for The Rings of Power have made characters like Morfydd Clark's Galadriel a central focus, this newest trailer suggests that Middle-earth itself will be a character. As in Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the locations depicted in the newest trailer for The Rings of Power are varied, with beautiful hilly landscapes in one scene seemingly giving way to charred battlegrounds in the next. With the trailer showing off more of the beauty of Middle-earth before then teasing the rise of the forces of evil, it shows clearly what is at stake and the ways of life that will be lost should darkness triumph.

It remains to be seen how The Rings of Power will compare to The Lord of the Rings in terms of its breathtaking visuals, but the show's gargantuan budget and recent trailer suggest it may be able to give Jackson's trilogy a run for its money. Although The Rings of Power has clearly made an effort to capture some locations practically, it also appears to boast far more CGI than Jackson's trilogy, which may not sit well with all viewers (even if the effects do look impressive). With just under a month to go until the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, audiences don't have much longer to wait before they'll be able to check out the new Middle-earth in far more detail.
