A fan-made trailer for the Lost finale has already caught the attention of showrunner Damon Lindelof. The co-creator of Lost tweeted about the brilliantly cut trailer only one day after it showed up on YouTube. I have to admit, I got chills more than once during the two-minute video.
Now, I'm not saying it is perfect. In fact, it lacks some essential characters and iconic moments. But that's not the point. In only two minutes, the trailer could get any naysayer to watch the show and it is almost entirely thanks to the music. The track in question is "Shooting Star" from the Stardust score. The music captures the epic nature of a finale six years in the making.
Lost has completely captivated audiences since its inception, and continues to mystify. The show does not merit a kind of insane trailer like the one we made for this summer's slate of movies. Instead, it should be presented with the same emotion and fascination the show explores.
The trailer does a wonderful job of mixing natural sound and music. The creator added an echo to much of John Locke's dialogue, giving him a celestial narration. Instead of relying on action and explosions, the trailer focuses on the mystery of the island. After all, that is what the show is about, right?
While this may not be the trailer you see on television, it is undoubtedly one of the best you'll see for Lost. It makes you realize just how wonderful the look and spirit of the show truly was.
The 2 1/2 hour Lost finale airs on ABC on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010. What did you think of the trailer?
