While the actress is best known for facing off against zombies and monsters, Paul W.S. Anderson reveals that Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich will fight in the new George R.R. Martin movie, In the Lost Lands. Based on the short story of the same name, the fantasy adventure story centers on Gray Alys, a sorceress charged by a queen to venture into the titular wilderness to discover a mystical power to help her fulfill her love. Alys will find her journey fraught with danger as she faces off against evil men and demons with the help of her guide, a drifter named Boyce.

Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista are set to lead the cast of In the Lost Lands as Alys and Boyce, respectively, with no other actors confirmed for the roster at the time of writing. Development on the film was first announced in early 2018 as Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for his work on the Jovovich-led Resident Evil movie franchise, signed on to develop the story and direct on a script from The Pagan Queen's Constantin Werner. After over a year of development, audiences are finally getting their first teases of what's to come from the latest George R.R. Martin adaptation.

While speaking with Variety to discuss the 25th anniversary of Event Horizon, Paul W.S. Anderson offered some insight on his new George R.R. Martin movie, In the Lost Lands. The director confirmed filming will begin later this year and teased that Dave Bautista will fight Milla Jovovich in the fantasy adventure film. See what Anderson shared below:

"We start shooting on Nov. 14, so I’m actively involved in prepping the movie right now. It’s Milla [Jovovich] and Dave Bautista, who are going be amazing. Seeing them go head-to-head is just going to be fabulous. Oh yeah, I mean you can’t have Milla and Dave in a movie and not have them have a go at it. It’s an adaptation of a George R.R. Martin story so you know it’s going to be dark and twisted and have wonderful characters. Because that’s what George does."

Given Jovovich has faced off against the human likes of Shawn Roberts in the Resident Evil franchise and Tony Jaa in the Monster Hunter film, both of which were also helmed by Anderson, his tease that she will fight Dave Bautista in his adaptation of Martin's In the Lost Lands should prove exciting for fans of the actress. Throughout her frequent collaborations with her filmmaker husband, as well as other ventures, Jovovich has displayed her stunt fighting techniques, while Bautista himself has utilized his WWE past to bring multiple action sequences to life in film, namely in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. With Anderson confirming Bautista and Jovovich will fight in the movie, it does beg the question of whether it stems from a betrayal on the former's part or if it will simply be the two struggling to get along at the start of their journey.

On top of the confirmation that Dave Bautista and Milla Jovovich will fight in the new George R.R. Martin film, those eager to see In the Lost Lands brought to life should find it exciting to learn that filming is slated to begin in November. It seems likely the longer development cycle stems from Bautista's busy schedule with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin and buddy cop movie with Jason Momoa, making the confirmation that another of the Game of Thrones creator's works to life on screen is coming sooner than later should please fans of the author. Audiences will have to keep their eyes peeled for any potential behind-the-scenes teases Anderson, Bautista or Jovovich may share from the In the Lost Lands set once filming begins later this year.
