Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock, stars of the upcoming adventure-romance film The Lost City, took time to reminisce on Tatum's eventful nude scene in the film. Originally titled The Lost City of D, the film was announced to be in development in October 2020 with Bullock immediately being attached to the project and Tatum eventually being added as the film's male lead in December 2020. The film is currently set for a theater-exclusive release on March 25, 2022, in the United States.
The Lost City follows author Loretta Sage (Bullock) as she is pulled into a nefarious plot ripped straight from her own adventure novels after being kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe), prompting her novel's cover model, Alan Caprison (Tatum), to embark on a rescue mission. Joining Tatum and Bullock in The Lost City's cast are the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Patti Harrison, Oscar Nuñez, Brad Pitt, Raymond Lee, and Bowen Yang. Despite not having an official rating, the story of the film has notably featured some extreme concepts, such as potential nude scenes.
In an interview with ET Canada, both leading stars were given a chance to reflect on Tatum's daunting nude scene, detailing how it not only affected him but other members of the cast and crew as well. Specifically, Bullock and Tatum both recalled a scene that involved her speaking to him at eye-level with a "certain part of his body," adding an extreme element of weirdness to the scene. Tatum: Walking to set with a bunch of leeches super-glued to my butt and not having met everybody and just kinda being like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna be butt-naked, my name’s Chan today. This is just what it is,' And then not only that, but to have Sandra Bullock have, like, a two-page monologue with, uh, a certain part of my body.
Bullock: You have to really like the person and feel safe with them. There was no weirdness, you’d think there would be weirdness, but because he was so chill about it, he dropped everything and I spoke to it.
When it comes to filming nude scenes, Tatum has never been known as an actor to shy away from baring it all on screen. The actor even managed to pave a notable career for himself as the titular character in the series of comedy-drama films Magic Mike wherein he plays a young man named Adam who enters the business of male-stripping. The franchise is presumably set to conclude with the upcoming third installment, Magic Mike's Last Dance, which is currently in development with Tatum set to reprise his role.
With this shocking scene being confirmed for the film by its own leading stars, audiences can rest assured, or worry depending on their inclination, that they are in for a wild ride. Furthermore, it seemingly reflects the still to be announced age rating for the film, with the chances for an R-rating seeming at least somewhat possible.. Whether rated-R or not, The Lost City can be enjoyed by audiences upon its release in the coming month ahead.
