Lost was a complex television show that brought so much to the table; fans never knew what to expect, and some of its regular viewers stayed confused yet on the edge of their seats from the start. While there was a lot to keep up with, the creators certainly knew how to tell a fascinating tale.

With so much drama packed in, there were, obviously, some plot points that were better or worse than others. In fact, the five storylines that deserved more attention within this series and the five storylines that got too much screen time are listed out down below!

Deserved More Attention: The Statue

Over time, more parts of The Island were discovered, along with part of an ancient statue; all that was left of it was a foot.

It was there even back when Richard Alpert, and it was called The Statue of Taweret. That is really all that was known about it! And while it could be chalked about to one of this spot’s many mysteries, a brief backstory could have been told, since it was such a prominent piece.

Got Too Much: Nikki And Paulo

Nikki and Paulo Lost

The survivors, their family members, The Others, The Dharma Initiative… There were tons and tons of characters on this show, and there were two supporting characters who got a bit too much screen time.

Nikki and Paulo were on Flight 815, but for some reason, there was an episode that tried to introduce them further. And then that episode ended with them being buried alive. There was enough excitement without adding in this random story.

Deserved More Attention: Walt’s Specialness

Malcolm David Kelley as Walt in Lost

Early on, it was mentioned that Walt was different, special, and perhaps even psychic. Soon after that, though, Walt was taken and not seen for a while. So this intriguing plot was abandoned.

Once again, there were so many cool side stories happening, so it seemed pointless for some (like this one) to be brought up briefly and never again.

Got Too Much: Jack’s Tattoos

Jack tattoos in Lost

Also in Season 1, Jack’s tattoos were, of course, noticed and mentioned, and then an episode called "Stranger in a Strange Land" came about, which focused on this ink further.

Did they mean something exciting? Were they clues about The Island? Nope. They were just random pieces of art he put on his body permanently during random times of his past.

Deserved More Attention: The Cabin In The Woods

On Lost, what was the deal with the Cabin and why could it move on its own.

Something else that was discovered was a cabin in the woods. Ben was going to take Locke there to meet Jacob, which brought about a strange scene that showed objects flying around the room and a figure.

Later, more confusion was added to this storyline, as it turned out the cabin moved around The Island. Why? Was there a point? We want answers!

Got Too Much: Dogen

lost Dogen

As mentioned, more and more characters were introduced as the story progressed. Some of them played big roles, while others seemed useless. For example, Dogen was one of The Others, and he seemed mystical and played a role in this magical temple.

It may have been difficult to provide every answer about The Others and about the mysterious places on The Island. However, don’t tease audiences with someone who doesn’t add to the overall plot at all!

Deserved More Attention: The Numbers

On Lost, why were the numbers seemingly cursed for no reason.

If there had to be something else explained further, many would surely agree that it could be the numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. These were Hurley’s bad luck numbers, they were on the hatch, they popped up here and there, and they seemed critical to why these people ended up on The Island.

Hurley apparently got the numbers from someone he was hospitalized with, though, so there could have been much more information given about these iconic numerals.

Got Too Much: Zoe

When loose ends should have been tied up, yet an additional character was introduced: Zoe. She was a geophysicist hired by Charles Widmore, and while she was only in a few episodes, her presence seemed to really stick out (in a negative way).

Deserved More Attention: The Heart Of The Island

On Lost, what was the point of the Cork in the Heart of the Island

Like the numbers, there was also a heart on The Island, and the end of this story tried to explain it… but it was during a time that so many other monumental things were being revisited and wrapped up, too.

Really, an entire prequel film or three could exist, in order to shed some light on this. But that could, perhaps, ruin some of the magic and mystery associated with this one-of-a-kind place.

Got Too Much: Pregnant Women

Claire Lost

One of the main characters, Claire, was pregnant, and one of the main Others, Juliet, was brought to The Island to help expecting women. Obviously, this storyline was brought up more than once, but guess what?

In the midst of all the craziness, it seemed irrelevant. It was never fully explained, and the screen time could have been utilized for something bigger and better.
