For many TV fans, Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) is perfect. One of the two main characters on Gilmore Girls, she is passionate, vibrant, fully caffeinated at all times, and always hilarious. She knows every pop culture reference under the sun and can make small talk with anyone.

But even though Lorelai is such a great character, there are some storylines on the show where she just doesn't act like herself. Likewise, there are some moments where she does exactly what fans would expect her to do, and it's inspiring to see a character who knows her own heart and mind.

Inconsistent: Bailed On Max But Eloped With Christopher

Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe) isn't the most well-crafted character, and it was a big surprise to Gilmore Girls fans when Lorelai eloped with him in Paris in the seventh season of the show.

This didn't make much sense, as Lorelai had always been a commitment-phobe, at least when it came to marriage. Lorelai is inconsistent because she bailed on Max Medina (Scott Cohen) and literally run away from their wedding plans, but then married Christopher without giving it much thought.

Stayed True to Herself: Followed Through On Her Dream Of Opening Her Own Inn

Lorelai had always wanted to open her own inn, ever since she started in the business as a teenage mother. Instead of deciding that it was too hard or would take too much time and money, she went for it.

Lorelai stayed true to herself by believing that she was worth it and that she deserved to have her own business. She and her best friend/business partner Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy) faced many obstacles, but they got it done and opened the Dragonfly.

Inconsistent: Seemed Interested In Christopher While Dating Luke

The jury is out on whether Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai belong together, but Lorelai wasn't very fair to the diner owner when they embarked on a relationship. She always seemed interested in Christopher, and they often seemed to flirt as their conversations were always full of witty banter.

This was confusing, as Lorelai swore that she loved Luke and that she was all in.

Stayed True to Herself: Wanted To Be Involved In April's Life

When Luke learned that he was a father to April Nardini (Vanessa Marano), he didn't exactly run to share the news with Lorelai.

He was very strange and cagey about the information, and he didn't want to be involved with the whole situation. Lorelai, understandably, didn't love that and didn't feel respected. She stuck to her guns and kept standing up for herself and what she needed from the relationship.

Inconsistent: Didn't Talk To Rory For A Period Of Months

Fans remember season 6 as the season when the iconic mother-daughter duo actually stopped talking. While the characters often fought, this was really on another level.

It seemed confusing that Lorelai would allow herself to stop communicating with her daughter. As a strong single mother, Lorelai had always been there for Rory, and it seemed out of character for her to let this situation go on as long as it did.

Stayed True to Herself: She Never Learned To Cook Or Was Domestic

Lorelai and Sookie are both hilarious and one of the sweetest things about their friendship is how Sookie likes to cook for Lorelai and Rory.

Even after becoming a mother and then raising a teenage daughter, Lorelai never learned her way around the kitchen. She always figured that it was good enough to go to Luke's and order takeout on a regular basis (and, of course, supplement that junk food with home-cooked goodness by Sookie). Lorelai never became very domestic, either, and she always stayed true to herself in that sense.

Inconsistent: Felt Weird With The Gilmores Paying For Yale, Then Let Christopher Do It

Fans remember many awkward Gilmore Friday Night dinners, as this was the deal that Lorelai made with her parents. However, she didn't like that she needed them to pay for Chilton and Yale, and this made her very uncomfortable.

It was odd, then, that she allowed Christopher to pay for Rory's tuition when he was able to. Wouldn't Lorelai still feel weird about it?

Stayed True to Herself: Made Jokes Even In Front Of Her Formal Parents

Many evenings at the Gilmore household were super tense, but even when she was feeling uncomfortable (or perhaps because of it), Lorelai made tons of jokes.

Whether talking about how much she loved pudding or bringing up random references that her parents didn't get, Lorelai didn't change who she was just because she was with her formal parents. It might not have been the right setting for her bold personality, but she didn't care, and that's inspiring.

Inconsistent: Took Her Forever To Admit She Loved Luke

While there are other people Lorelai might have fallen in love with, for many Gilmore Girls fans, Luke is her endgame.

It's frustrating and confusing, then, that it took Lorelai so long to admit that she loved Luke. She could barely even acknowledge that she had a crush on him. For such a bold and brave character who can talk to anyone, this seemed strange.

Stayed True to Herself: Slept At Yale The First Night

Rory with fellow students at Yale on Gilmore Girls

Rory had some ups and downs in her life, but things were definitely looking up when she arrived at Yale for her freshman year.

Lorelai stayed true to herself by sleeping over the first night. Sure, she knew that her daughter was old enough to be able to handle it, but she also knew that Rory was nervous about starting college. Lorelai didn't care if she looked uncool or lame; she just wanted to be there for her daughter. It was a great idea and Lorelai inspired some of the other students to look around for the best junk food and coffee.
