Pre-registration is now open for the upcoming Lord of the Rings: Rise To War, a new mobile game that aims to bring the works of J. R. R. Tolkien to life once again. The game is due to launch next month, and will take place during the Third Age of Middle-earth, the same era in which The Lord of the Rings trilogy takes place.

The Lord of the Rings series has seen multiple video game adaptations and spin-offs over the years, some more successful than others. As well as titles directly based on the movie releases such as the beloved PS2-era The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, fans of The Lord of the Rings have access to a plethora of games involving the Middle-earth IP, including The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game, MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online, and the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, scheduled to release next year. As well as games, LOTR fans also have the Amazon TV show coming in 2022, making the next year an exciting time for Tolkien fans.

Lord of the Rings: Rise to War's release date and pre-registration details have now been confirmed by NetEase Games. The mobile release will come to iOS and Android devices on September 23, with pre-registration now open. Those who pre-register will receive an exclusive in-game gift pack, including a portrait of the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins. The game will task players with choosing the side of good or evil in a new and officially licensed war-focused strategy experience. Players will expand their armies for conquest, and "strategically expand their territory in pursuit of the One Ring."

See the announcement on Twitter here.

Depending on whether Lord of the Rings players choose the side of good or evil, they'll be tasked with building either Fellowships or Warbands. Lord of the Rings: Rise to War will use a tile-based map to facilitate players' conquering and territory expansion as they devise the best strategies for attack and defense against their foes. Combat on the battlefield will see players either win or lose new territory, making plans of attack a main focus for the mobile title. The game promises to be a faithful interpretation of the fictional realm of Arda, and has already confirmed a number of the trilogy's most iconic characters, including Aragorn and Elrond.

Lord of the Rings: Rise to War's simulated warfare should appeal to Tolkien fans who enjoy the series' epic large-scale battles, which could translate well to a mobile strategy game. The title could be the perfect game to see fans through to the next big Lord of the Rings game release. Those looking to pre-register can find the game via the App Store, Google Play Store, Galaxy Store, or via the game's official website.
