Sometimes, it’s a great time to enjoy a fun reprieve from more serious discussions about one of the biggest and most loved franchises ever: The Lord of the Rings. Ever since the movies came out, but even before, some fans have found the characters really intriguing or attractive and imagined what it would be like to date them.

There’s no denying many of the male characters from the series would make great romantic partners for a variety of reasons. This list will rank mainly the members of the Fellowship, and even the lowest on the list aren’t necessarily bad.

Gandalf

Gandalf after his resurrection as the White

Gandalf is a character that doesn’t really seem like he’s interested in dating. This makes sense in the world of Middle-Earth as Gandalf is one of the five Istari who were sent to Middle-Earth to protect it.

So, in a way, he’s a weird mix of a wizard and an angel or guardian type figure. So, his goal in life isn’t to find happiness just for himself or to settle down, so this is why he’s lowest on this list.

Boromir

Boromir at the council of Elrond

Boromir is definitely the member of the Fellowship with the most obvious flaws, but truthfully, he’s not a bad person. He wanted what was best for his people, and he does have a kind side as we see with his relationship with his brother, Faramir, and also how he looked after Merry and Pippin.

He wouldn't be a bad partner, but you would have to deal with some of his insecurities as well as with Denethor as a father in law.

Frodo Baggins

Frodo

Frodo Baggins is another character low on this list because he doesn’t particularly seem like he’s someone interested in dating. He’s a bit of a solitary figure in the same way that Bilbo was, and while it’s not his fault, being the Ring-bearer is very difficult on him. This is why he ends up leaving to the Grey Havens and even leaving Sam behind.

So, truthfully, a romantic relationship doesn’t seem feasible for him.

Pippin

Fans love Pippin for being the hilarious, immature, but kind-hearted Hobbit that he is. He’s definitely rather naive and innocent about the cruelty of the world and what war is like, and it's easy to feel sorry for him as he is forced to see the reality of these harsh truths.

As Pippin got older and went through the things he did, he gained maturity and perspective. But, he’d definitely still be a fun prankster. He wouldn’t be a bad partner, but he might be a little less able to take care of himself than others on this list.

Gimli

Gimli holding his axe in Lord Of The Rings

Gimli might not seem like the most traditional pick on this list, but he’s definitely stalwart and loyal. Gimli can be a little bit rough around the edges, and he does speak his mind.

But, just like pretty much all the men from the Fellowship, he’s brave, true, and compassionate at his core. And, if one likes a good ale and a hearty meal, Gimli would be great to share one with.

Merry

Merry in Return Of The King

Merry and Pippin are both beloved by fans for their pranking ways and funny moments, but Merry was always the slightly more mature and perceptive one of the two. He had a bit more understanding of what the world was like, and he didn’t get himself into as much trouble as Pippin did.

Because of this, he’d be more capable of looking after himself and being more engaged as a partner than Pippin.

Legolas

Legolas has always been a fan-favorite because he’s an attractive, graceful, skilled elf, and it’s easy to see why so many fans thought he was rather dreamy. However, there’s more to a romantic relationship than good looks. And, luckily, Legolas is also loyal and giving.

Overall, Legolas would be a good partner if you also have an adventurous spirit. After the events of the series, he spent many years wandering Middle-Earth with Gimli. So, one would also have to be willing to have Gimli around whether these two are just friends or something more.

Faramir

While Aragorn would be a fantastic partner, Faramir is also an amazing choice. It was difficult to pick who should go first as they are both very heroic and gentle in their own ways.

And, Faramir has fewer responsibilities than Aragorn does as Aragorn is the king of pretty much all mankind. Faramir is a little softer in his approach to life, but he’s also very brave. But, Aragorn is also a little more secure in himself.

Aragorn

Aragorn and Arwen in TLotR The Return of the King.

Aragorn is definitely one of the most solid picks for a romantic partner of any of the men from the series. He’s also very handsome, and he’s very heroic through and through. He’s someone who is completely loyal and willing to do anything to protect the people he loves.

When he gives his heart, he will always look out for the other person such as in his relationship with Arwen. Plus, he’s also a king.

Samwise Gamgee

Sam and Rosie Return of the King

While so many of the men from the series are great and would be wonderful to have as friends or as romantic partners, Samwise is definitely one of the best. He’s loyal and brave, and he would always be there for those he loves.

He's also one of the best friends one could ever have.  Plus, he enjoys cooking and gardening, and he’s just got one of the best personalities around. He’s gentle but also not weak, and he goes on to be a great husband and father.
