Upcoming Looney Tunes film Coyote vs. Acme has received a release date. In the classic cartoon shorts, Wile E. Coyote is constantly chasing the Road Runner. The devious canine planted countless traps, but was foiled almost every time. Wile E. Coyote's devices come from Acme Corporation. A film starring Wile E. Warner Bros. has revealed release dates for three upcoming movies, including Coyote vs. Acme. The Looney Tunes film will hit theaters July 21, 2023. Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn is one of the writers. The film will reportedly be based on the classic cartoons and the Coyote v. Acme fictional court case written by Ian Frazier, which was published in The New Yorker in 1990.

It's a good time for Looney Tunes fans. There are new cartoon shorts available on HBO Max, and next year sees the release of Space Jam 2. Coyote vs. Acme sounds like it will be a unique watch in the Looney Tunes library. Since it's based on the fictional court case, that means the film should be part courtroom drama. Seeing the Coyote sue Acme corporation for its products has a lot of potential for great humor. Interestingly, Looney Tunes: Back in Action reveals the coyote is actually an employee at Acme. That probably won't be the case in the upcoming film, but it certainly would be an interesting wrinkle. Since Coyote vs. Acme is over two years away, it'll likely be awhile before a teaser is released.
