The newest champion to join League of Legends' huge roster is a moody little mage named Vex the Gloomist. Riot Games' multiplayer online battle arena game frequently adds brand-new characters to its already massive roster, which consists of over 140 fighters. Older League of Legends characters are also given updates on a frequent basis, which helps to maintain their competitive balance and design quality.

Back in July, a League of Legends trailer leaked several new champions that would soon be arriving in the game. The trailer was meant to act as a reveal for Akshan the Rogue Sentinel, a character that was added to the game soon afterward. Akshan acted as the main focus of the trailer, acting as a narrator while also hinting at his own gameplay mechanics and role in the ongoing story of League of Legends. However, an image at the very end of this trailer also hinted at a previously unseen champion, a dark mage who belongs to the game's animalistic Yordle race.

A new champion trailer, shown by League of Legends on Twitter, reveals the game's next playable character as Vex. The Yordle mage, previously seen in Akshan's trailer back in July, has a delightfully moody and irritable personality. Vex is accompanied by a shadowy creature which seems to play a large role in the grumpy warrior's gameplay style. Firing the shadow as a large projectile appears to be Vex's primary method of attack, with an energy shield and teleportation also appearing in her kit.

League of Legends' summer event added Akshan as the battle arena game's latest Champion. While the swashbuckling rogue does wield a very charming personality, his in-game abilities are also quite a unique addition to the roster. A grappling hook allows Akshan to quickly traverse the battlefield, and he can even use other special attacks while shining around. Swinging around and firing his gun is a great way for Akshan to disrupt enemies, while his trusty boomerang reveals all enemies within its vicinity. Alongside adding new characters, developer Riot Games also has a habit of revisiting and reinventing previously-released Champions too. This ensures that older characters are not rendered useless or boring next to brand-new faces like Akshan and Vex. The spiritual warrior Udyr will receive such as rework, bringing his cosmetic appearance and main abilities in line with the rest of League of Legends' modern sensibilities.

With a very exciting personality and a fascinating kit of abilities, Vex is an intriguing addition to League of Legends. While no real details about her moveset were provided, the use of a shadow companion during combat has the potential to create some truly unique abilities and attacks. With a standoffish attitude that likely rings true for many players, Vex looks like a fresh new addition to League of Legends' list of Champions.
