With He Who Remains, Ravonna Renslayer, the TVA, the fake Time-Keepers, Alioth, and even Sylvie all being antagonistic forces in Loki, it's possible that viewers overlooked the real villain of the Disney+ show, Miss Minutes. Before the Time-Keepers were revealed to be stand-in puppets for the one in charge of the TVA, theories had previously suggested that a variant of Loki himself would be revealed to be behind their operations or that Mephisto would finally make his MCU debut. But one theory that Loki never truly confirmed or debunked was: what if Miss Minutes was secretly the main villain all along?

Miss Minutes was set up as a key character in Loki after her episode one debut, with suggestions she had a significant part to play in the show's events. However, the adorable little clock had much less screentime than promotional content had suggested, but even though her role in the show was small, there is still potential for her to become a central element in Loki season 2. Finding out she is more involved in the control of the timeline would fit. After all, what craves the order of time more than a device that can only run in linear time?

One theory, courtesy of TikTok user DreadPirateDad, suggested that Miss Minutes was the real villain behind the Time-Keeper ruse. After all, it’s she that introduces the idea of the multiversal war and the danger of branches. As Loki had already established, time itself is the most terrifying power in the universe. Whoever controls it controls everything. The theory is based on the similar aesthetic and feel to puzzle video game Portal 2, and expands on that story's twist to suggest that the Time-Keepers did originally start the TVA but were long dead and Miss Minutes was simply left in charge with nobody else to answer to. When the job of managing the timelines became too hard, she turned to recruiting variants to bolster her ranks. Of course, Loki took a different approach, rendering this theory inaccurate. But Loki season 2 could once again support the basic premise of an evil Miss Minutes.

How Miss Minutes Subverted The TVA To Subdue Loki For Kang

Loki finale Loki crying Miss minutes offers a deal

Miss Minutes was the first to introduce Loki to the Time Variance Authority. She provided him with context and background information about their operations and explained why it was so important that the Sacred Timeline was protected at all costs. It turns out that the possibility of variants breaking the multiverse wide open by causing branches in the timeline was true. Although Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could change what viewers know so far about the MCU's multiverse, the death of He Who Remains at the hands of Sylvie in the Loki finale confirmed that Miss Minutes was right. However, it's important to remember that Miss Minutes hid her allegiance to He Who Remains not only from Loki but also from the TVA employees and Ravonna Renslayer herself. As the only character to know He Who Remains' identity and real motivations, she gained the trust of the TVA and the pruned variants to remain unnoticed.

After Loki and Sylvie managed to survive Alioth and reach the Citadel at the End of Time, Miss Minutes received them (with one of the MCU's most effective jump scares, no less). Instead of confronting them head-on, Miss Minutes attempted to bribe them. She offered Loki the possibility to live in a timeline where he won the Battle of New York, outlived Thanos, and acquired the Asgardian throne. For Sylvie, the promise was to send her to a timeline where she lived a peaceful life filled with happy memories. To seal the deal, Miss Minutes proposed giving them a scenario where they both lived together.

Although Sylvie and Loki rejected her offer, Miss Minutes succeeded in lowering their guard for He Who Remains. His description of the Sacred Timeline and the Multiverse finished dividing Loki and Sylvie, and ultimately, the latter unleashed all her resentment on He Who Remains, killing him and thus paving the way for Kang the Conqueror. Hence, Miss Minutes' treatment of Loki and Sylvie could have been strategically planned to liberate Kang the Conqueror since the beginning.

Miss Minutes Is Worse Than He Who Remains In Loki

He who remains Lied Loki Sylvie Miss Minutes TVA

If Miss Minutes' plan was to push Sylvie or Loki to kill He Who Remains, that would mean she was always in control of the variants, the TVA, Ravonna Renslayer, and He Who Remains himself. Miss Minutes' origins weren't shown in Loki season 1. Perhaps Kang, before agreeing to craft a peaceful timeline alongside He Who Remains, created Miss Minutes with the intention to use her as a mole who would infiltrate the Time Variance Authority and ensure he would eventually be able to return. Miss Minutes' shifty behavior throughout Loki may have been a symptom of hiding the truth not only from the higher-ups at the TVA but also from the person behind the Time-Keepers. She may have known that Sylvie needed to be motivated to murder He Who Remains and set her real boss, Kang the Conqueror, free to take hold of the multiverse.

Loki season 2 could disprove this theory just like season 1 proved that neither an evil Loki variant nor Mephisto were the ones living at the Citadel at the End of Time. The prospect of Kang wreaking havoc throughout the multiverse because of Sylvie's revenge is interesting enough by itself, but making Miss Minutes part of Kang's complex plans to return, getting his older self killed along the way, is an interesting possibility. Whatever the case, there's a lot the MCU still needs to explain about Miss Minutes, including the extent of her knowledge about time and the multiverse.
