Warning! Contains spoilers for Loki episode 4.

Mobius’ Titan line in Loki episode 4 could mean that the Time Variance Authority had a past encounter with Thanos’ brother, Starfox. In Marvel Comics, the Titanian Eternal was on the main Avengers roster during the mid-1980s. Who is the character of Starfox, and could the mysterious Time Variance Authority have apprehended them?

The comic books established decades ago that Thanos and Starfox hail from Saturn’s moon, Titan. The two are members of a branch of Eternals that settled there centuries ago. Though the two share the same parents, they look nothing alike. The hulking, purple-skinned Thanos stands apart from Starfox and other members of his race since he possesses the Deviant gene. The family history of the MCU’s Thanos wasn’t fully fleshed out in the movies, and Starfox and Thanos’ connection to the Eternals has thus far been avoided.

Thanos’ race, the Titans, received an unexpected namedrop in Loki episode 4 when Mobius (Owen Wilson) and Ravonna (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) were discussing their Loki situation. During the conversation, Mobius remarked that the TVA has “brought in Kree, Titans, vampires. The “vampire” comment has justly received a lot of attention, but the mention of Titans is worth noting too. It raises questions about which Titans were captured by the TVA and why. Similar to the case with humans and all other races in the MCU, it may have just been a Titan variant that’s no more consequential to the MCU than the other nameless prisoners at the TVA’s headquarters. Or, they could have apprehended a specific Titan from the comics: Starfox.

Starfox in Marvel comics

If Starfox exists in the MCU, how did he earn the attention of the TVA? In The Infinity Conflict comic, he had a time-travel device on his wrist for the purpose of undoing Thanos’ evil acts. It’s possible that in the MCU, Thanos' brother Starfox had similar reasons for resorting to time travel. Not unlike Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, he might have used time travel as a means to stop his brother’s conquests. Or, his goal could have been to undo the end of the Titan civilization. Regardless, either action surely would have been noticed by the TVA agents.

Thanos may be dead in the MCU, but revisiting the Titans and introducing Starfox does feel like an option that is on the table for the MCU’s future. With his impressive powers, the space-faring alien could follow in the footsteps of his comic book counterpart and join an Avengers team at some point down the line. With Chloé Zhao's Eternals movie set to explore the origins of the Eternals,  Starfox could be name-dropped here. Since he would likely be a loner since his people are all gone, it would make sense for him to be off traveling alone somewhere, or in the custody of an organization such as the TVA. His thirst for adventure has gotten the Eternal into trouble before, so the same thing happening in the MCU certainly seems feasible. Starfox could be a tough character to explain without getting too deep into Eternals lore, but the upcoming Chloé Zhao movie can do that. So for that reason, it would make more sense for Marvel to hold off on him until after they get their own movie. Then, he could appear for any cosmic MCU story, including Loki season 2.
