In a new promo video, Tom Hiddleston explains why Loki always makes fun of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in the MCU. The Asgardian Princes debuted at the same time in 2011 via Kenneth Branagh's Thor film. Since then, they've appeared together mostly across all subsequent God of Thunder solo films, as well as, three Avengers blockbusters.

Given how long they've been in the MCU, Marvel Studios was able to fully flesh out their relationship. Starting out as brothers who also saw each other as rivals, their dynamic had been mostly contentious in the franchise. The fact that Odin (Anthony Hopkins) actively pitted against each other didn't help their situation. But, as they suffer through wins and losses together, their relationship became much more genuine. Despite Loki being adopted, Thor had been accepting of him. Meanwhile, the God of Mischief was also able to let go of his grievances, even sacrificing himself in an effort to save his brother in Avengers: Infinity War.

Still, Thor and Loki's relationship will always be remembered by fans as playful. Granted that their antics can be downright dangerous like when the time Loki actually stabbed his brother, but both of them engaged in occasional reckless behavior. In a new promo video for Disney, Hiddleston explains why the God of Mischief liked poking fun at his brother. The actor cites Loki not being the heir to the throne allows him to be more fun and adventurous, and since the God of Thunder doesn't have that much freedom as the presumed next King of Asgard, he reveled at joking about Thor's arc.

I think especially with Loki not being heir to the throne, he was always going to have more freedom and less responsibility. And he'd be able to sort of take a little, I don't know, just make fun of Thor's journey to being King of Asgard, which, turns out, he didn't want, anyway.

Perhaps aside from Loki having more creative freedom and less burden, his attempt at teasing Thor is also his way of coping with his jealousy. For the longest time, he felt out of place in Asgard simply because the God of Thunder is deemed the golden child. Unfortunately, Thor soaked up all the attention and sometimes, even used it to rub it on Loki's face which may have resulted in the God of Mischief being resentful. This explains Loki's baffling attempt at taking over Earth in The Avengers in an effort to retaliate, especially after learning the truth about his adoption.

Loki's story may be continuing in the MCU, but outside of the Sacred Timeline. Meanwhile, after the God of Thunder survived the events of the Infinity Saga, his arc will continue in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. This means that the Asgardian Princes will have to move forward in the franchise separately — at least for now. Given the state of the multiverse, there's always a possibility that their paths will merge again, one way or another.
