Warning: Spoilers ahead for Loki episode 2, "The Variant"

Loki episode 2 may have just hinted at the future of Thor. The trickster god finally met his new nemesis in the second episode of Loki, a mysterious variant with unusual powers. Played by Sophia Di Martino, this new variant appears dedicated to bringing down the Time-Keepers and the TVA, and the episode ended with her bombing the Sacred Timeline with reset charges, wreaking havoc on an unprecedented scale.

Loki succeeded in tracking the variant down when he correctly deduced how she was hiding from the TVA. He realized it was possible to conceal oneself in a moment of an apocalyptic disaster as any impact one had on the Sacred Timeline would be erased and thus be unable to be traced. The theory was tested with an impromptu visit to Pompeii, AD79, and then Loki and Mobius M. Mobius combed the TVA's records looking for the right disaster. This led to a disturbing scene in which they revealed a number of upcoming tragedies, suggesting Earth's future in the MCU is rather bleak. But they ultimately settled on a horrific storm that struck a Roxxcart facility in 2050. This may actually be a subtle hint pointing to Thor's activities in that era.

Roxxcart is a subsidiary of a company called Roxxon, which has had a background presence in the MCU ever since 2008's Iron Man. In the comics, Roxxon ultimately wound up being taken over by corrupt businessman Dario Agger, who possesses the mystical ability to transform himself into a minotaur and became a major Thor villain. Significantly, he manipulated Thor into launching strikes on Roxxon facilities across the globe in order to sue the God of Thunder, and he even arranged matters to ensure there was collateral damage in terms of lives lost. It's disturbing to note the Roxxcart facility is being ravaged by a hurricane, a storm that definitely falls under Thor's powerset, so it's possible Loki episode 2 is foreshadowing the future conflict between Thor and Roxxon.

Of course, the interesting question is just who will wield the powers of Thor by 2050. Thor: Love & Thunder will see Natalie Portman's Jane Foster become the Mighty Thor, but by that time it's even possible someone else has proved worthy to wield Mjolnir. If so, any involvement in a disaster like this would potentially affect their worthiness, because they have unwittingly slain innocents while pursuing their war against Roxxon. Alternatively, Marvel could draw upon portrayals of Thor from the 2099 comic book range, which envisioned a world where corrupt companies dominated and superheroes battled against them - sometimes in brutal ways.

This is only a theory, but it would be perfectly fitting for a variant of Loki to hide herself in a place ravaged by Thor, a place where the Thunder God lashed out in rage, and killed innocents. Any Loki variant would take pleasure in the fact they were hiding from the TVA in a place where a Thor had failed.
