Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Loki episode 3.

Sophia Di Martino explains why Sylvie's crown is broken in Loki. Tom Hiddleston is back as Loki for Marvel Studios' newest Disney+ series. Thanks to the time travel plot of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe found another avenue for the god of mischief's story to continue. Loki is already halfway through its first season and has given fans a glimpse of the multiverse in the MCU, including alternate versions of characters.

At the start of Loki, it was revealed that another Loki Variant besides Hiddleston's was causing problems for the Time Variance Authority. Di Martino was revealed to be this Variant at the end of episode 2, although her actual character's identity remained a mystery. Fans believed that she was Lady Loki, as she possesses magical powers and even wears a version of Loki's horns. However, Loki episode 3 revealed that she prefers to be called Sylvie, who is a version of the Enchantress from the comics, and teased her actual backstory.

Screen Rant recently had the opportunity to speak to Di Martino about her new role as Sylvie in Loki. During the interview, we asked the actress about Sylvie's broken Loki crown. She shared why she believes the left horn is broken and how it is connected to the comics:

Sylvie's been on the run for a long time, she's been hiding out in apocalypses. She's been brawling a lot, she's been beating a lot of people up. I think the horn is probably broken somewhere along the line. It's also, I believe, inspired by the comics and the Lady Loki character. It says a lot about Sylvie - she's wearing a crown, but it's kinda broken.

Loki Episode 3 Sylvie

Sylvie's broken Loki crown is rooted in the design of the Lady Loki character, as Di Martino explained. A version of the character wore this exact crown in the comics, which is why so many Marvel fans jumped to the conclusion that the show introduced her as Lady Loki. It appears Marvel Studios is combining elements of Lady Loki and Enchantress to create Sylvie, especially with the broken crown visuals. Interestingly enough, the Loki trailers indicate that Hiddleston's version of Loki will also wear this crown or a version of it.

It will be fun to see if Loki takes Sylvie's broken crown a step further and actually shows how it broke in the first place. Di Martino's explanation that it likely shattered during a fight makes sense. Loki episode 3 showed her use the crown as a weapon in combat and strike attackers with it. If Sylvie has been running from the TVA and others for years and using the crown during altercations, then there would've been plenty of opportunities for the crown to break. Now fans will have to wait and see what else Loki reveals about Sylvie's backstory and if the broken crown is addressed.
