How Old Is Sylvie Compared To Loki?

How old is Loki’s Sylvie (Sophie Di Martino) in comparison to Tom Hiddleston’s version of the character in the MCU? Much of her backstory remains a mystery, but what has been said about her has left little doubt that she’s lived a life totally different to the one led by the prime Loki.

Presumably, the female variant of Loki bears little in common with the God of Mischief in the movies and the variant captured by the TVA in terms of what experiences they’ve shared. That’s largely because their paths diverged several centuries ago. An unknown Nexus event in Sylvie's childhood caused her to be taken out of Asgard and away from her family by the Time Variance Authority, who tried (and failed) to prune her. For this reason, Sylvie likely never started a war between the Asgardians and the Frost Giants, led an army of aliens to Earth, betrayed Thor to the Dark Elves, or watched the destruction of her homeland.

Not being able to compare her life experiences to either version of Tom Hiddleston’s character makes it difficult to nail down an exact age for the Goddess of Mischief, but there are some clues, at least. Loki is approximately around a thousand years old, which is about five hundred years younger than Thor (Chris Hemsworth). This information about Loki’s age stems flashback in Thor, where it’s revealed that the battle with the Frost Giants took place In Norway in 965 AD. It was during this encounter that the infant Loki was found and secretly adopted by Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Looking at the aging of Frost Giants in the MCU and the age of the actress playing Sylvie, it makes sense that she too is close to a thousand years old.

Odin confirmed in Thor that Asgardians, who aren’t actual immortals, age like humans do, just slower. It would seem that the same rule applies to the MCU’s Frost Giants, which is what Loki and Sylvie are. Classic Loki is clearly a more weathered take on the character, who survived centuries in isolation after the event where he was supposed to die at the hands of Thanos. Classic Loki’s advanced age was reflected by the actor playing him, Richard E. Grant, who is 64. Sylvie actress Sophie Di Martino, on the other hand, is 37, which suggests that her character is approaching middle-age for a Frost Giant. She’s three years younger than Hiddleston, but that doesn’t necessarily mean Sylvie is younger than the prime Loki. Hiddleston is 40 now, but he was around 30 when he began playing the character. All things considered, it’s probable that Di Martino’s Loki variant is anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 years old.

Sylvie having lived for so long raises all sorts of questions about her life in the MCU. Where (or when) did she spent the rest of her childhood and teenage years, and what was she doing before she started her crusade against the TVA? She mentioned a romantic relationship with a postman, but there’s so much about her past that Marvel has barely begun to touch on in Loki.
