Tom Hiddleston teases that Loki explains the meaning behind the god of mischief's horns. The latest Marvel Cinematic Universe series on Disney+ is highly anticipated for a variety of reasons. The show's setting in an alternate MCU timeline and likely multiverse connections should offer fans something they haven't seen before. Of course, this will all happen during a story that focuses on one of the MCU's most popular recurring characters, as Hiddleston's Loki has once again cheated death to take a more central role in a Marvel Studios property.

Fans immediately gravitated towards Hiddleston's charismatic portrayal of Loki in 2011's Thor. He went on to appear in five additional MCU movies, including Avengers: Endgame - where an alternate version of Loki escaped from the Avengers in 2012 using the Tesseract. This moment and the launch of Disney+ gave Marvel Studios the avenue to once again reinvent Loki's character. WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier have shown how these Disney+ shows can flesh out established Marvel characters, and Loki should be no different. It will be able to explore Loki's psyche and backstory like never before, and that means providing some answers about his character.

Loki's costume has constantly changed throughout his time in the MCU. But, his horns are one piece of his look that has continued to come back. The MCU has never explained why Loki is so fond of these horns, and that question about the trickster's backstory was raised during Loki's development. Hiddleston told Murphy's Multiverse that this is an element about his MCU character that was discussed as an area that the show could explore, and he teased that the Disney+ series will provide an answer after all. Read what Hiddleston said below:

People wanted to know about the horns. I do remember that. There was a question of when does Loki wear the horns? Why does he wear them? Is it a ceremonial thing or are they somehow an extension of some emotional intention? Is he particularly malevolent at those times? It was kind of interesting to be asked these questions from outside, I guess, from outside this experience. All will become clear in time.

Loki's horns are widely associated with his character design, but he's only worn them sparingly in the MCU. He had the golden helmet on throughout various parts of Thor, such as during his brother's crowning ceremony and when he eventually sat on Asgard's throne. Loki put on the horns again in The Avengers once he pronounced himself to be Earth's new ruler. He didn't wear them again until Thor: Ragnarok's final battle. There will be at least one new version of the horns featured in Loki too, so the meaning behind them will be fascinating to uncover.

With Loki so close to releasing on Disney+, it might not be long now before fans learn exactly what Loki's horns represent or where they came from. It is possible that he uses them subconsciously at times when he wants people to notice him, as they are quite difficult to miss. The helmet has also been a symbol for the sorcery he wields, so the explanation in Loki could be tied to the series furthering the trickster's powers.
