According to Kevin Feige, season 2 of Loki may not start filming until 2023 at the latest. The hit Disney+ show's second season was announced in the 6th and final episode of the first season. Loki was created by Michael Waldron, directed by Kate Herron, and produced by Feige, Waldron, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Tom Hiddleston, who returned as the titular character.

Loki's first season ended on a surprisingly monumental cliffhanger that shifted the entire MCU into a new realm of possibilities, with the reveal of Jonathan Major's He Who Remains, a variant of future MCU villain Kang the Conqueror, as well as the concept of the multiverse. Due to the actions of Sylvie killing He Who Remains, the sacred timeline is fractured and Kang has taken control of the timeline monitoring TVA. With Hiddleston rumored to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, audiences may see how the Asgardian Trickster is handling these recent revelations soon but may have to wait a little longer for the next chapter in his own series.

While being interviewed by Collider for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Kevin Feige responded to questions about season 2 of the Disney+ show regarding when filming will begin, as well as who will direct following Kate Herron's departure. Feige confirmed that the series is in development, along with hopes that much of the creative team will return as Herron moves onto new projects. He also revealed the search for a director will begin shortly, with filming having an estimated start date sometime in 2022 or 2023.

"It is underway. We're developing it as we speak. The hope is that much of the same team will return. Kate is going on to bigger and better things, so the director search will begin shortly, and I'm not being evasive. We have a start date. I'm not sure exactly where it falls between next year or the year after."

Mobius walks and talks with Loki in Loki.

Loki introduced many key elements of the MCU's future, debuting Jonathan Major's time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror, who is preparing to return to the role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania. The series also firmly established the concept of the multiverse following multiple teases throughout the franchise's history, such as Doctor Strange and Avengers: Endgame. With Marvel's What If? exploring the potential the multiverse may hold, and Doctor Strange set to venture through it in both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the effects of Loki and Sylvie's actions will ripple throughout the foreseeable future of the MCU.

Though some fans of the series may not be pleased to hear of the long wait, rumors of both Sylvie and Mobius returning alongside Loki in Multiverse of Madness may provide fans of the series with some hope that they'll be able to see what happened to their favorite characters sooner than later. Loki is certainly a hit for both Marvel and Disney+, with the show reportedly seeing the highest viewing figures per US household for its opening episode and series finales when compared to WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With its strong performance and surprisingly impactful ramifications for the MCU's future, audiences are sure to be desperate to see what lays ahead for the trickster in Loki season 2.
