Richard E. Grant is open to the idea of returning as Classic Loki following his triumphant guest role on Loki, but he doesn't quite see how it would work. This week brings the final episode of Disney+'s Loki, the third Marvel show made exclusively for the streaming service. Over the course of its first five episodes, the series has seen Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief meet alternate versions of himself, face death for what must be the umpteenth time, and perhaps, fall in love.

Loki episode 5 introduced audiences to multiple Variants of the titular character, thus giving way for Oscar nominee Grant to put on a memorable and impactful performance. As Classic Loki, or a Loki who survived Thanos' attack in Avengers: Infinity War, Grant had just an episode to make his mark. However, between his gentle confession that he missed his brother to his impressive show of magic at the end of episode 5, Classic Loki became an instant fan favorite. Sadly, he sacrificed himself in the installment's final moments so the MCU's Loki and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) could defeat Alioth.

Grant sat down with ET following his Loki debut and discussed whether he would ever be open to a return as Classic Loki. The actor admitted that while anything is possible, he doesn't quite see how anything could top the triumphant way Classic Loki went out. And yet, that doesn't mean he's saying no. Grant said:

As you just said, everything's possible. But I think that's because his sacrifice is so huge and it's going out with such a bang, how do you top that if he had to come back? I have no idea. You know, it's not within my arena to do that. But I wouldn't say no, if asked. Put it that way.

Classic Loki Laughing in episode 5 of Loki

Classic Loki offered a glimpse at what the MCU's Loki might've been like had he survived his encounter with Thanos. Many have pointed out a sorcerer as powerful as he is should've been able to trick Thanos in Infinity War, and Classic Loki even poked fun at the concept during episode 5. Grant's performance made a character who only appeared for a short period of time truly fascinating, and many would like to know more about him.

Of course, as Grant said, Classic Loki got a fantastic ending. Bringing him back, while giving Grant a chance to do more with the character, could run the risk of diminishing the impact of his death. It might be for the best that audiences only got a short time with Classic Loki. Grant did a great job with the scenes he had, and his character won't be forgotten any time soon. With only one episode left, Loki could find some way to pay tribute to the fallen Variant. If not, at least he went out by finding his glorious purpose.
